Today, on World Humanitarian Day, we take a moment to recognise the dedication and commitment of humanitarian workers who choose, every day, to stand alongside people affected by conflict, displacement, disasters and crises.
As part of our annual tradition, Acted and IMPACT teams gathered today at the 3Zero House in Nairobi to honour and remember humanitarian colleagues who have lost their lives in the line of duty. We took a moment to recognise the dedication and commitment of humanitarian workers who choose, every day, to stand alongside people affected by conflict, displacement, disasters and crises.
As conflicts continue to multiply and humanitarian needs grow, aid workers are facing increasing risks simply for doing their job: helping people in need.
According to the latest Aid Worker Security Report, 1,187 aid workers were victims of major security incidents in 2025. The number of aid workers killed, wounded or kidnapped has almost doubled in just five years, rising from 481 in 2021 to 907 in 2025. Behind these figures are people who chose to help others, often under extremely difficult circumstances.
Today, we honour the memory of those who lost their lives while serving others, stand in solidarity with colleagues working on the front lines of crises, and call for greater respect for humanitarian principles. Because helping others should never cost a life.
