Youth Foundation of Kenya (YFK) was established in 1996 as a Community Based Organization (CBO) with the aim of empowering the youth socially, economically and politically to enable them respond more effectively to their needs. It was first registered by the Ministry of Culture and Social Services in Kakamega district as a CBO in 1997. Since its inception, YFK has been involved in the following ac
tivities;
Guiding and counselling of youth in educational institutions on matters pertaining to adolescent reproductive health (ARH) & HIV/AIDS
Organizing sports and recreational events for the youth e.g. cycling & soccer tournaments
Mobilizing the youth and community at large to participate in governance and democratic processes freely
Soliciting small grants to jump-start income-generating activities for individual members and affiliate youth groups
In March 2006, YFK was formally registered as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) under the National NGO Co-ordination Act of 1993, thereby broadening the framework for pursuing a hitherto nascent vision.
