One Year of the Githunguri Organic Market Outlet!
A year ago, before we opened the doors to our organic market outlet in Githunguri, we sat down with key stakeholders — local farmers, community members, suppliers, and government officials — to gather ideas, advice, and guidance on how to make this vision a success.
Today, as part of our ongoing project supported by the Fred Foundation, we convened once again with these vital partners for a reflection and stocktaking meeting!
Key highlights from our discussion:
Celebrating Progress: Reviewing market performance, sales trends, and how the outlet has expanded direct market access for local organic farmers.
Learning & Adapting: Discussing customer feedback, supply chain dynamics, and operational successes over the past 12 months.
Looking Ahead: Gathering practical recommendations on product diversification, marketing outreach, and long-term sustainability for the outlet.
A heartfelt thank you to all our partners, the Fred Foundation, and our dedicated agroecological farmers. Together, we are proving that safe, healthy, organically grown produce has a strong, sustainable future in Kiambu!

Learning, Sharing, and Growing Together! 🌍
On June 12th, COSDEP, in partnership with the Mlango Farm Foundation, organized an exchange visit for our smallholder farmers to the Youth Action for Rural Development (YARD) in Gatanga, Murang'a County! 🤝✨
Cross-learning is one of the most powerful tools for community empowerment. Our farmers had a hands-on experience interacting and sharing knowledge with fellow farmers in key sustainable practices, including:
Agroecological Agriculture: Practical insights into soil health, organic farming, and ecological balance.
Value Addition: Transforming raw farm produce into high-value products to maximize income.
Table Banking: Strengthening community-led financial systems for sustainable growth and self-reliance.
Healthy Cooking & Nutrition: Utilizing organic farm produce to ensure food security and healthy families.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to YARD for hosting us so warmly, and to Mlango Farm Foundation for walking this journey with us. When farmers connect, communities thrive! 🌾💪

Driving the Agro ecological Transition Together!
On May 14th, 2026, COSDEP joined over 200 smallholder farmers, researchers, private-sector players, and development partners at Ruhiu's Organic Farm in Ting'ang'a, Kiambu County, for the Kiambu Farmers’ Field Day 2026!
Under the theme, “Advancing Agroecology Through Partnerships and Bioinputs,” the event highlighted a crucial truth: building a truly resilient food system requires both local community action and strong institutional backing. We were deeply honored to have the Kiambu County Government fully represented by the CECM for Environment, signaling a powerful commitment to integrating sustainable farming into county-level policies.
The Power of Bioinputs: Demonstrating how farmers can slash input costs and heal the soil by creating their own organic fertilizers and natural pest solutions right on the farm.
Collaboration: Bringing together policymakers, scientists, and practitioners to bridge the gap between research and the actual soil under our fingernails.
A great thank you to our host at Ruhiu's Organic Farm, our partners, and every farmer who attended. When we share knowledge and innovate together, sustainable farming ceases to be just an alternative—it becomes the foundation of our community's future.

Strengthening Local Food Systems: The Githunguri Organic Market Day

On April 23rd, 2026, COSDEP successfully hosted an Organic Open Farmers Market in Githunguri, Kiambu County. This initiative provided a dedicated platform for smallholder farmers to showcase and sell their diverse range of organic produce—including vegetables, fruits, cereals, and herbs—directly to the public.

Market days like these are crucial for bridging the gap between sustainable producers and conscious consumers. By facilitating these direct linkages, we empower our farmers and promote community wellness.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Fred Foundation for their partnership and support in executing this successful event.

Group dynamics and life skills training are essential for fostering effective collaboration, personal development, and high-performance, particularly in professional, educational, and community settings. These programs aim to improve interpersonal skills-such as communication, empathy, and conflict resolution-while also strengthening intrapersonal skills like self-awareness and resilience.
COSDEP with support from Koppert foundation is working with FAMA Services to facilitate trainings on the same with the farmers groups.
