The period caravan was such a success!
Mentorship gives girls three very important things: exposure, affirmation and direction.
Exposure helps them discover possibilities beyond what they see around them. Affirmation helps them recognise that their voices, ideas, talents and experiences have value. Direction helps them begin turning their aspirations into practical goals.
We also believe that confidence grows through participation. When a girl is given an opportunity to speak, lead a discussion, solve a problem, demonstrate a skill or make a decision and is encouraged along the way, she begins to understand that she is capable.
Our approach is therefore not to simply tell girls to dream big. We want to help them understand what it takes to move from a dream to a plan and eventually from a plan to meaningful impact.
That is also the philosophy behind much of my work. Whether we are supporting children through education initiatives, working with women through skills development or engaging communities, we are interested in building practical systems that help people move from potential to opportunity.
