What a way to wrap up the Inclusive Africa Conference 2026! 🌍

Today marks the final day of and Global Assistive Technology Day, a powerful reminder of the work needed to advance inclusion across Africa through both policy and practice.

We took the stage alongside our colleagues from the Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc.(CHAI) for a deep dive into a critical theme: Scaling Early Identification and Early Intervention.

It was inspiring to share the conversation with CHAI’s Rwanda and Nigeria teams as we explored key learnings from the Build a World of Play programme — a 3-year initiative funded by the LEGO Foundation that has reached over 3.7 million children.

At Sense International Kenya, we highlighted how early identification, early intervention, and play-based approaches can support children with disabilities to learn, develop, and truly thrive.

Digital inclusion is a fundamental right that ensures every child and adult in Africa has the tools to learn, participate, and thrive.

Thank you to everyone who joined the conversation, both in person and virtually!

We are live at the Inclusive Africa Conference 2026

Sense International Kenya is pleased to be part of this year’s conversation on digital innovation and disability inclusion. Our Country Program Lead, Daniel Musango, joined an important panel discussion on the Persons with Disabilities Act 2025: One Year Later. Examining the progress made and the gaps that remain, is essential to building an accessible digital and social future for all in Africa.

Today, we take the stage again! We’ll be sharing practical insights from our work on early identification and early intervention, including how play-based approaches can support children with disabilities to learn, develop, and thrive.

They say the best teachers never stop being students.

This week, our dedicated teachers and LSAs did exactly that. They stepped back into the classroom and became learners again. They explored digital learning, SUN symbols, discovered fun and creative ways to engage learners. The experience was both enriching and inspiring.

The highlight of the training was rediscovering the power of play. Play supports inclusion. It creates space for diverse abilities. It also builds confidence, resilience and collaboration. The educators are leaving with renewed energy and practical skills and they are ready to bring this knowledge back to the children they support.

A big appreciation to our partners Kenya Institute of Special Education, LOHO Learning, and Kilimanjaro Blind Trust Africa for your continued support and collaboration.

This week, our teachers and Learner Support Assistants (LSAs) have returned to the classroom, this time as learners.

We are hosting a week-long training on play-based learning and teaching approaches, with sessions facilitated by various partner organizations, Kilimanjaro Blind Trust Africa, and LoHo Learning. Today, facilitators from the Kenya Institute of Special Education(KISE) led an engaging session focused on practical, interactive teaching strategies.

Why play-based learning?
For children with Deafblindness and other complex disabilities, play is a powerful tool that enhances learning, socio-communication, and daily living skills. It helps make learning more accessible, meaningful, and enjoyable.

Throughout the week, our educators will continue to build new skills and gain practical tools to better support every learner.

On this World Health Day, we're reminded that health isn't just a doctor's visit, it's a lifelong journey! It spans from early childhood, education, employment, community belonging, and so much more. For people living with Deafblindness and complex disabilities, this right to health is often unmet.
Building truly healthy communities takes an ecosystem: families, schools, employers, governments, and partners, all working towards the same goal. That's what inclusion looks like in practice.
This , our team shares how we’re building support systems for people with Deafblindness, from early childhood through to young adulthood.

Behind every child with a disability is a caregiver giving their time, energy, and commitment every single day, often without recognition or rest.
This week, Sense International Kenya concluded a two-day workshop under the Unpaid Care project, focused on two critical pillars: labour and time-saving technologies.
Day 1, focused on building simple routines, involving children in daily tasks, using play for learning, improving safety at home, and exploring income-generating activities. The sessions focused on helping caregivers save time and make daily care, more manageable and sustainable.
Day 2, led by the Directorate of Social Development (DSD), shifted to strengthening caregiver groups through teachings on formation, leadership, conflict management and managing group dynamics.
What stood out most was caregivers sharing their real experiences: the challenges, the wins, and the progress they are making every day.
A big thank you to our partners UNICEF, KAIH and the Directorate of Social Development (DSD) for their continued collaboration in supporting families and strengthening communities.
