"If you focus on cost, you will never start. Kenya Airways chose to focus on recruiting inclusive talent and learning from their lived experiences to build a truly inclusive workplace"
— Linda Okolo-Maruti, Business Support Executive and Diversity Initiatives Champion at Kenya Airways shared this during the panel discussion at the launch. The reflection panel brought together voices across employment, education, policy and practice to explore what it takes to make inclusion work.
She challenged a common barrier among employers. The assumption that inclusion is costly or difficult often delays action. Instead, she pointed to a practical shift, starting with talent and building systems around it.
At Kenya Airways, this has meant introducing inclusive internships, adapting how teams work and creating space for employees with visible and invisible disabilities to participate meaningfully. These changes have strengthened teams, introduced new ways of working and opened opportunities including accessible travel services, career growth pathways and tapping into the purple dollar market through KQ Ezesha. The purple dollar represents the $97.5 billion market of travelers with disabilities seeking safe and accessible travel.
