IIA Kenya Pays Courtesy Call to the Speaker of the National Assembly

The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Kenya, led by Board Chairperson CPA Lillian Wangechi Mwangi, paid a courtesy call to the Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Moses F.M. Wetang'ula, SC, EGH, MP, Speaker of the National Assembly.

The Speaker was joined by Hon. Kimani Kuria, Member of Parliament for Molo Constituency and Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning, and Hon. Paul Biego Kibichiy, Member of Parliament for Chesumei Constituency.

The engagement focused on seeking the National Assembly's support for the proposed Internal Auditors Bill, which aims to strengthen the internal audit profession, enhance its independence, and promote greater accountability and good governance across both the public and private sectors.

Following the discussions, the Speaker referred the Bill to the Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning for further consideration and scrutiny.

IIA Kenya appreciates the National Assembly's commitment to supporting reforms that strengthen internal auditing as a cornerstone of transparency, accountability and prudence in the utilization of public resources.

The role of internal audit has evolved from traditional financial assurance to becoming a strategic partner in governance, risk management, organizational resilience, and value creation.

We are proud to share that IIA Kenya Chairperson, Lilian Wangechi Mwangi, MBA, BA (Econs), CPA-K, CIA, CRMA, is featured on MyGov, where she challenges the long-held misconception that internal audit is merely about "checking the books."
