We attended the official launch of the MASKAN II Screening by Usikimye Creatives Garage and Heinrich Böll Stiftung, Nairobi Office and we left reminded that femicide is as close to all of us, as ever. It is in our homes, our neighborhoods, our workplaces, and our communities. It is everywhere around us.

We cannot afford neutrality in the face of multiple gender-based killings. We must be boldly ANTI-femicide.

If you’re in Nairobi, we encourage you to visit the MASKAN II exhibition while it’s on, till 20th August. Please take the time to engage with it, reflect, learn, and join the growing global call to end femicide.

Our heartfelt thanks to Usikimye, Creatives Garage and Heinrich Böll Stiftung, Nairobi Office for curating such a powerful and necessary space for truth-telling, remembrance, and collective action.

The patriarchal gaze teaches women to monitor themselves, evaluate one another, and organize their lives around being desirable, agreeable, and acceptable.

Unlearning it is less about changing how you look, and more about changing who gets to define your worth.
