“It is with great shock and profound sadness that we have learned of the deaths of 15 elephants in Amboseli over recent weeks.

As we await further details from the authorities, we urge anyone with information about those responsible to share it with the relevant authorities without delay. Pesticides and poisons capable of killing an elephant can also kill humans, with mothers, children and the unborn among the most vulnerable.

We call on relevant state agencies to investigate all tip-offs and address the source of these deadly toxins without delay.”

Last week, we marked the World Snake Day by celebrating these incredible reptiles and the vital role they play in maintaining healthy ecosystems. 🐍🌿

Our team participated in a two-day snake awareness training led by team from Watamu Snake Farm. Their expertise and hands-on guidance provided valuable knowledge on snake identification, safe handling, and the importance of snake conservation.

The training was followed by a community awareness day at the Field Lab, where we welcomed over 100 participants including children to learn about the ecological importance of snakes, dispel common myths, and promote safe coexistence with these often misunderstood animals.

A heartfelt thank you to Kyle and Njeri for sharing their expertise and helping us build greater appreciation for snakes and the important role they play in our ecosystems.

Yesterday, we celebrated World Snake Day by taking the message of snake conservation, coexistence, and education into the community!

Over the weekend, some of our community children gathered at the Field Lab Library for an exciting day of discovery, creativity, and conservation learning.

The young learners explored a collection of fascinating books about elephants and rhinos, expanding their understanding of these iconic pachyderms and the important role they play in our ecosystems. Inspired by what they learned, the children expressed their creativity through painting and drawing, proudly showcasing beautiful artworks celebrating wildlife.

This activity is part of this year's Parchyderm Challenge and continues to deepen their knowledge and passion for elephant conservation, building on their participation in the Kifaru Challenge organized by WildlifeDirect last year and made possible through the generous support of Conservation Nation

This week in Washington, DC, the photograph of our CEO, Kenyan conservationist, and National Geographic Explorer Dr. Paula Kahumbu, captured by renowned photographer Charlie Hamilton James, graces the entrance doors of National Geographic headquarters as the organisation opens its new Museum of Exploration.

The image was taken during Dr. Kahumbu's role as presenter of the acclaimed four-part National Geographic series Secrets of the Elephants, filmed across Africa and Asia. For every visitor walking through those doors, it is a powerful reminder of what storytelling can do to people to wildlife and turn that connection into action.

Inside the museum, an exhibit celebrates her life's work from the groundbreaking "Hands Off Our Elephants" campaign to decades of conservation leadership confronting wildlife crime, habitat destruction, and the consequences of a world growing disconnected from nature.

In her own words:
"This story is not mine alone. It belongs to millions of Kenyans whose voices, hands, courage, and belief helped defend our elephants when they were being slaughtered for ivory and their tusks trafficked to markets half a world away."

This honour belongs to Kenya. To Africa. And to every person determined to protect nature in the face of unprecedented threats.
