As Kenya marks 63 years of self-governance this Madaraka Day, we at Kianda Foundation celebrate a remarkable shared journey of progress, resilience, and transformation.
Our story began even before Kenya became a republic. For nearly 65 years, we have witnessed firsthand the power of education and empowerment in changing the lives of women, families, and communities across the country. We have seen more girls access quality education, more women enter leadership spaces, more entrepreneurs build sustainable livelihoods, and stronger systems emerge to support gender equality and social development.
These achievements are worth celebrating. They reflect the determination of generations of Kenyans who have worked to create greater opportunities for women and girls.
Yet, as we commemorate both Kenya's 63 years of self-governance and Kianda Foundation's upcoming 65th anniversary, we are reminded that the journey is far from complete. Too many women and girls still face barriers to education, economic participation, healthcare, leadership, and equal opportunity. Sustainable empowerment requires not only individual effort but also strong institutions, inclusive policies, equitable systems, and collective action.
As we reflect on how far we have come, we renew our commitment to building a future where every woman and girl has the opportunity to thrive, contribute, and lead.
This Madaraka Day, we celebrate our nation's progress while reaffirming our responsibility to continue advancing equality, dignity, and empowerment for all.
Happy Madaraka Day, Kenya.
