FEMNET is a pan- African, membership-based feminist network based in Nairobi with over 800 members across 46 African countries, committed to amplifying women's priorities and aspirations in key policy dialogues and outcomes. FEMNET (The African Women's Development and Communication Network) was set up in 1988 to share experiences, information, ideas and strategies among African women's organizations. FEMNET aims to strengthen the role and contribution of African CSOs focusing on women's development, equality and other human rights.

Effective conservation is impossible without inclusive, transparent governance.

Recently, community members and stakeholders in Kilifi County convened for a vital community structured dialogue hosted by Kilifi Youth on the Move focused on the natural resource management of the iconic Arabuko-Sokoke Forest.

The conversation didn't shy away from complex realities. Participants openly addressed key systemic hurdles:
🔹 Conflicts of interest stalling progress
🔹 Governance and leadership challenges within the Community Forest Association (CFA)
🔹 Power dynamics and imbalances between decision-makers and local communities

Recognizing that solutions require collective effort, the community agreed on a roadmap of actionable steps for the coming months. A central priority is convening a structured multi-stakeholder dialogue to align interests, rebuild trust, and ensure equitable co-management of this critical biodiversity hotspot. Real change happens when communities lead the way.

What a beautiful, powerful, joy-filled few days it has been! 🥹🌍✊🏾

To our incredible African Feminist Academy for Climate Justice Cohort 4, congratulations on successfully completing the Academy! 🎉🎓 You showed up with curiosity, asked the bold questions, challenged ideas, shared your experiences, laughed together, learned from one another and reminded us that feminist learning is also about joy, connection and community. 💃🏾🌱

From the Academy sessions and those “wait… let me process that!” moments 😅, to our visit to the African Union, exploring institutional mapping and strategic engagement, and experiencing the energy of CCDAIXV — you took the learning beyond the classroom and into the spaces where continental conversations are happening.

But perhaps the most beautiful part was watching a cohort of young feminists become a little more connected, a little more confident and a whole lot more ready to take up space. 💚🔥

Thank you for bringing your brilliance, questions, stories, laughter, boldness and feminist joy into this space. Thank you for making AFACJ 4 your own. The Academy may be over, but this is only the beginning.

So, go forth and question boldly, organise collectively, lead courageously and keep the feminist joy alive! 🌍✊🏾💚

Who is climate finance really reaching? And who gets to decide where the money goes?

Africa is being asked to build resilience to a climate crisis it did little to create. Yet, only about 10% of climate finance reaching Africa trickles down to frontline communities, while women globally receive less than 2% of development finance.

So what happens when we put the people living the crisis at the centre of the money meant to address it?

On the sidelines of in Addis Ababa, the Africa Resilience Collaborative (ARC) was launched with a bold ambition: to reshape how climate finance reaches Africa—and who gets to shape and access it.

For FEMNET, this means more than increasing the billions announced in climate pledges. It means finance that reaches women, youth, feminist organisations, and communities already leading adaptation on the ground.

Because resilience without justice is simply survival. And Africa deserves more than survival. ✊🏾🌍

✨ And just like that… we’ve reached the final day of AFACJ 4! 🌍💚

What a journey it has been! The African Feminist Academy for Climate Justice was never just about sitting in a room and learning. It was about taking that learning out into the world — connecting the dots, understanding where power sits, and seeing feminist climate action in motion. ✊🏾🌱

From deep political learning and bold conversations, to visiting the African Union Complex for institutional mapping and strategic engagement, and stepping into the continental climate conversations at CCDA14 in Addis Ababa — our participants have experienced climate justice beyond the classroom.

Four days of learning, questioning, connecting, engaging, imagining and organising — with plenty of feminist joy along the way! 💃🏾✨

We leave with new knowledge, new connections, renewed courage and an even bigger conviction: the future of climate justice must be feminist, and young feminists are ready to shape it. 💚🔥

Here’s to the next chapter of learning, leadership, and collective power! ✊🏾🌍
