Today, in Gilgil, we join the families, friends, colleagues, and the entire Utumishi Girls fraternity in mourning the heartbreaking loss of 16 young girls who lost their lives in the tragic fire incident.
Our deepest condolences go to the bereaved families and all those affected by this devastating tragedy. Losing young lives filled with dreams, hope, and potential is a pain that words cannot adequately express. As a nation, we stand with you in grief and in prayer.
May God grant strength to the parents, relatives, teachers, friends, and the entire school community during this difficult period. May He comfort every broken heart and give you the courage to face the days ahead.
As the requiem mass is held today in Gilgil, may it be a moment of remembrance, reflection, and unity as we honor the lives of these young souls.

πŸ•ŠοΈ Gone too soon, but never forgotten. πŸ•ŠοΈ May the souls of the 16 girls rest in eternal peace, and may perpetual light shine upon them. πŸ•ŠοΈ Our thoughts and prayers remain with the families and the entire Utumishi Girls family.

As received.....A family of four died a very painful death. The husband locked the house, poured petrol on his wife and two children, doused the entire house with it, then poured it on himself and lit it. (Some reports claim it was sulphuric acid, or a combination of both.) But here is the full story!! πŸ‘‡

A family of four from Kiganjo, Thika, has tragically lost their lives following a heartbreaking incident linked to ongoing domestic disputes. Neighbours had reportedly grown concerned about frequent conflicts in the household of Kamau Kamoko (The Husband) and his wife, Phyllis Wambui, saying the disagreements were also affecting their two young sons, Tallan (6) and Terrence (4).

According to residents, a commotion was heard from the family’s locked house before the situation escalated dramatically when a fire broke out inside. Thick smoke quickly engulfed the home, prompting neighbors to raise the alarm and force their way in. By the time the doors were broken down, all four family members had collapsed from the smoke.

Kamau Kamoko, a plumber from Kiarutara in Gatanga, and one of the boys sadly died before they could be rescued. Phyllis Wambui, a food vendor from Mwago in Gatanga, and the other child were rushed to hospital in critical condition. Despite efforts by medical personnel, Phyllis later succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment.
In an even more devastating update, the surviving son also passed away, leaving no survivor from the family.

The tragedy has left relatives, friends, and neighbours in deep shock, with many struggling to come to terms with the loss of a family that appeared happy and united in public.

May their souls rest in eternal peace!!!

A camera caught her.

And everything her mother prayed for almost disappeared in one night.

She is 16.

She is somebody's whole world.

And the school has now shut its gates on every single girl inside.

It was past midnight at Kahuhia Girls' High School when the CCTV footage recorded what nobody wanted to see.

A student β€” young, uniformed, probably exhausted β€” crouching near the generator.

Trying to siphon fuel.

Not weapons.

Not violence.

Fuel.

The kind that keeps lights on.

The administration saw the footage and made their decision fast: indefinite closure.

Every girl sent home.

Every dream temporarily suspended because of one desperate moment.

Here is what the announcement did not tell you.

Kenya's national exam season creates a pressure so extreme that students have been known to study by torchlight, candlelight, phone screen β€” anything to stay ahead.

Load shedding is not a theory in many Kenyan boarding schools.

It is Tuesday night.

It is the week before mocks.

It is darkness at 10 PM when you still have three chapters left.

Nobody is excusing what she did.

But the question the headlines skipped is: what was she trying to power? πŸ•―οΈ

Now flip this.

A school closure punishes 400 girls for the choice of one.

In Switzerland, in Canada, in Australia β€” a disciplinary matter stays between the institution and the student.

Here, the entire community absorbs the consequence.

That is not justice.

That is collective punishment wearing the costume of administration.

And the parents who travelled hours to drop their daughters off β€” they are the ones now driving back in silence.

BrenΓ© Brown once said that we judge people in their worst moments and forget we are more than our worst moments.

A 16-year-old girl at midnight near a generator is not a criminal.

She is a symptom of a system that keeps asking students to excel in the dark. 🌍

If this were your daughter, you would not be angry at the school's decision alone.

Yesterday was an extremely sad day.

When word went round that UTUMISHI GIRLS School was on fire at midnight, every parent rushed to the school. Those from within and those from far. All they wanted was to see their children.

That's what happened to the parents of Faith Irine, a Form 4 student at the school. They were worried about her safety and all they wanted was to get to her school.

When they got to the Kariandusi area near Gilgil, they were involved in an accident. So bad was the crash that Gladys Cheney (Mama Faith) succumbed on the spot. Baba Faith escaped with minor injuries.

Faith survived the school accident with minor injuries.
