The rising cases of femicide and violence against children in Kenya are a painful reminder that more must be done to protect the most vulnerable members of our communities. Behind every headline is a life lost, a family grieving, and a future cut short.

As a society, we all have a role to play in creating safer communities, speaking out against violence, supporting survivors, and protecting our children.

The time for action is now!

Growing violence against women and children exposes systemic failures and highlights the need for national action.

Today, on Menstrual Hygiene Day, we raise our voices for millions of girls in Kenya who continue to struggle with period poverty.

For many teenage girls, the lack of access to sanitary pads is more than a health challenge, it becomes a barrier to education, dignity, and opportunity. Too often, girls are exposed to exploitation and risky situations just to afford basic menstrual products, contributing to school dropouts and teenage pregnancies.

At the Amina Myrén Foundation, we believe every girl deserves the right to stay in school, feel safe, and live with dignity. Menstrual health should never determine a girl’s future.

It is time to end the stigma, increase access to menstrual products, and invest in the empowerment of girls across Kenya.

As part of our school feeding program, we are taking measurements and recording weights to better support and track the children we serve. Each small record represents a bigger story, a child who deserves nourishment, care, and a fair chance to learn.

The launch in Keiyo South, Elgeyo Marakwet, marked an important milestone as the second rollout of our Nutridence pilot project following Kwale.

Keiyo South is among the areas facing significant socio-economic challenges, with many communities experiencing high poverty levels, limited access to essential services, and difficult terrain that often leaves roads impassable during heavy rains.

These challenges directly affect learners and families, making school feeding programs and nutrition support critical for education continuity and child wellbeing.

We were honoured to be joined by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament , Gladys Shollei, together with local leaders, reflecting the importance of partnerships and collective action in addressing child nutrition and strengthening opportunities for vulnerable learners.

”Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” Helen Keller .

Grateful to share this meaningful collaboration with Midwest Food Bank East Africa, and Kwale County
as we launch a pilot feeding program at Kigwende Primary School in Msambweni.
Together, we have donated 8 tonnes of Nutridence to support school meals for one year, along with sanitary pads for the girls at the school.

This initiative is about improving nutrition, dignity, access to education, and creating brighter futures for our children and community.

Schools are open again and while classrooms fill up, let’s not ignore what this data is telling us.

Behind these numbers are real girls, real futures at risk. Safety, guidance, and support must come first, both in school and beyond.

Let’s protect our girls, empower them, and ensure education remains their path, not a pause.
