Uraia Trust is a charitable trust, which works in the areas of civic education, civic engagement and institutional transformation. Uraia does this by facilitating the development of an engaged citizenry through the provision of quality civic education that enables Kenyans to realise their constitutional aspirations. Uraia’s Key Focus Areas for 2016-2020 are entrenching constitutionalism, promoting free and fair elections, addressing the historical political marginalisation of women, youth, persons with disabilities, marginalised and minority groups and promoting internal excellence. Uraia works in Kenya through civic educators, implementing partners at the national and county level and the media. Uraia Trust also collaborates with the Government of Kenya at both the national and county level.

With Deep Sorrow

It is with profound sorrow that Uraia Trust announces the passing of our beloved colleague and friend, Gladys Muthoni Maina. Gladys passed away while receiving treatment abroad, after a battle we had all hoped and prayed would end in her recovery.

We are grateful for the time, dedication and warmth she shared with the Uraia family, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones. On behalf of the family, we thank all who stood with Gladys through her illness; your prayers and support meant more than words can say.

Further details on funeral arrangements will follow in due course.

May her soul rest in eternal peace.

A project's test isn't at its launch it's at its end, when the people who lived it are asked to look back honestly.

That's what Day 2 of the RITAI Reflection Workshop was about. Beyond the achievements and the findings, consortium partners spent the day asking the harder questions: What did collaboration actually feel like on the ground? Where did we adapt, and why? What results are we most sure of and which ones deserve more scrutiny?

It's easy to celebrate outcomes. It's harder and more valuable to sit with the full, unvarnished story of how you got there. Grateful to Muslim women Advancement of Rights and Protection, PAWA 254, Haki Yetu and Friends of Lake Turkana for doing exactly that today.

What changes when a community realizes that its voice has power?

Today, in Mochongoi Ward, Baringo County, we documented the answer.

For years, access to clean water meant long journeys and lost hours for women and their families. But through civic education, the Kapchekendi Women Group discovered that they could do more than live with the challenge they could organize, participate and influence the decisions shaping their community.

They identified water as a priority, submitted a memorandum during the county budgeting process, and their collective voice was eventually translated into water tanks.

But perhaps the greatest change is not the water tanks themselves.

It is the transformation from feeling unheard to knowing that participation can shape real decisions.

Real development is not only about what communities receive. It is also about the power communities gain to shape their own future.
