Great news!!! We will be streaming the event live on all our Social Media platforms for those who may unfortunately not be able to join us in person in Bungoma.

What they lacked in synchrony, they had buckets full in enthusiasm 💪 🎉.

Over the years, in collaboration with Government, funders and partners, we have dedicated resources to strengthening access to mental health services at community level. As we mark and @20 we share with you voices from the communities we work with and how this work has directly impacted their lives.

This is a feature showcasing the positive outcomes being experienced by two service users, who courtesy of receiving services from the model mental health clinic at Gongoni Health Centre, are now on the road to recovery and are even engaging in daily household chores. These stories are shared from the perspective of their caregivers as well as by the service users themselves. Previously, these service users were not well enough to participate in community life. One was even at some point tied down by his caregiver to prevent him from harming himself and others. Today however, the caregivers and the service users appreciate the fact that mental illnesses can be treated and are freely seeking for services at the nearby health centre.

20 years ago, our founders started with a simple idea: Mental Health is a Human Right.
Reflecting on @20, we are moved by how far the global conversation has come. From a "footnote" in 2005 to a primary focus in 2026 – progress is real, and we are just getting started.

Join us in celebrating two decades of impact.

It's a whole month dedicated to raising awareness, reducing stigma, and promoting education about mental health and mental health conditions that affect millions globally.

As a team at Basic Needs Basic Rights Kenya, we are feeling incredibly privileged and humbled this month as we will also be commemorating a significant milestone, our 20 Year Anniversary. For 20 years, we have walked a journey dedicated to implementing mental health interventions across Kenya. What started as a mission to bridge the gap in mental health services has grown into a community-wide movement of hope, dignity, and inclusion.

More to come... @20
