Today, we had the pleasure of hosting a team from CARE Kenya at our Association of Grassroots Journalists Kenya (AGJK) offices for an engaging and insightful meeting.

The session served as an opportunity to formally introduce AGJK who we are, our mission, and the impactful work we continue to do in strengthening community journalist and media across the country. We shared an overview of our key programs, such as the AGJK Mentorship Program, the AGJK Conference and Awards, and other activities across our thematic area of focus.

We also took time to walk through AGJK’s organizational structure, demonstrating how our systems and networks support effective program implementation and sustainable growth.

Importantly, the discussion created space to explore potential areas of support and collaboration with CARE Kenya. From promoting gender inclusivity to strengthening capacity, both teams identified shared priorities that could pave the way for meaningful and impactful partnerships.

This meeting marks an important step toward building a strong and strategic collaboration pathway one that has the potential to expand impact, empower communities, and strengthen the role of community media in development.

AGJK held a strategic partnership meeting hosted by James Hagengruber, Counselor for Public Diplomacy and Spokesman; Emily Eller, Press Attaché; and Lilian Kaivilu, Strategic Content Coordinator at the U.S. Embassy Nairobi Nairobi in Gigiri.

The Embassy reaffirmed its commitment to working with and supporting community media. We gained deeper insight into the impactful programs the Embassy runs in Kenya and explored pathways to expand opportunities for community journalists.

Our journalists were encouraged to tap into available American Spaces for learning, collaboration, and professional growth.

We look forward to strengthening partnerships that empower community media and broaden access to opportunity.

Strengthened Collaboration.

AGJK held a productive meeting with the Secretary for Information and Broadcasting at the Ministry of ICT Mr. Temesi Mukani to explore strategic collaboration in strengthening community journalism in Kenya.
Discussions focused on joint efforts to build journalists’ capacity, advance advocacy initiatives, and enhance civic engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.

We also highlighted the upcoming AGJK Community Journalism Mentorship Program and our Annual Community Media Conference as key platforms for skills development, knowledge exchange, and sector growth.

We look forward to impactful partnerships that empower community journalists and strengthen informed public participation.
