Bringing digital expertise and advocacy together.

NairoBits met with Isoke Kennedy Makuma( Legal and Protection Officer), Trevor Sserwanga, and Nelson Lukonge from Entrepreneur Empowerment Advocacy-Health EEA-H to explore partnership opportunities and how our expertise in digital skills can complement their advocacy work.
The discussion focused on strengthening Entrepreneur Empowerment and Advocacy-Health in the digital space, exploring how technology can support their work and how they can adapt to emerging technological advancements. We also discussed digital literacy, data protection, communicating advocacy messages to donors and the possibility of collaborating on a joint event.
Through this partnership, NairoBits can contribute its digital expertise to help strengthen advocacy approaches and support EEA-H in navigating an evolving digital landscape.

What happens after the skills are gained?

It is a question Damaris, a young entrepreneur from Kilifi, posed at the Mastercard Foundation Kenya Country Program Partners Convening, hosted at Swahilipot Hub in Mombasa on 1 October. It is also a question NairoBits has spent 26 years working to answer.

The convening, themed Pamoja, Bila Vikwazo (together, without barriers), brought partners together around a shared ambition: dignified and fulfilling work for Kenyaโ€™s young people.
Young people spoke about the barriers they continue to face, from access to finance to accessibility, while partners reflected on the systems that need to shift.

At NairoBits, the certificate is the starting line. We pair digital skills with mentorship, job placement, and support for the businesses young people build. More than 300,000 young people have trained with us. But training is only one part of the journey. What comes next matters too.
We left Mombasa recommitted to building those pathways with partners, because no organisation can remove these barriers alone.

Potential is everywhere. Opportunity should reach it.

At HNP, Kibera, young women came together for the SisTech Cohort 2 interviews, bringing different experiences, ambitions and ideas for what comes next.
Sometimes what makes the difference is not potential, but having the opportunity to develop it.

Taking the first step into tech is personal. Closing the gender gap in tech is collective. Women and girls continue to face barriers to digital skills, training and opportunities in technology.

Closing that gap starts with creating more pathways for women to gain the skills and experience needed to participate in the digital economy.

The SisTech Cohort 2 interviews at Hesed Africa mark the beginning of another pathway for young women ready to take that first step.

We are grateful to HESED-Africa Africa for the continued support and for providing a space where more young women can access opportunities to learn, grow and explore their potential in tech.The first step may be personal. The change we are working towards is collective.
