Thousands of children in Kenya today are homeless living on the streets of our towns without access to food, clothing, warmth, hygiene, somewhere to sleep and the love of a family. They are particularly vulnerable because of the stresses of their living conditions. Many of these children suffer and do not access education because they live on the street and/or lack a supportive family environment.
The goal of Shelter A Street Child Foundation is to identify such children from our streets, bring them to a rehabilitation centre and counsel them. We are here so no street child has to fight homelessness, hunger, loneliness, poverty on their own. We are working to break the cycle of street homelessness. It is not just about getting the street child off the streets. It’s about finding lasting solutions to stop them from becoming street children in the first place and to ensure that our rehabilitated children don’t revert to their prior life on the streets. Settled in a secure family environment, the child is safer and, most importantly ready to go to school, and build a better future for themselves. We will also be able to help them in establishing their own careers in desired fields in future.
