Utu Wetu Trust today joined fellow human rights organizations, lawyers, and other actors at a press briefing outside Muthangari Police Station in solidarity with Diana Gichengo, Executive Director of TISA, following threats and surveillance linked to her human rights work.

We call on the relevant authorities, including DCI and the National Police Service, to conduct prompt and independent investigations into the reported threats, guarantee her safety, and uphold Kenya's constitutional and international obligations to protect human rights actors.

PUBLIC NOTICE

The High Court of Kenya at Kisumu authorized substituted service by advertisement in Constitutional and Human Rights Petition No. E011 of 2026, affiliated with the Baby Pendo case. The gist of the petition challenges the decision of the ODPP to drop criminal charges against 8 commanders in the Baby Pendo case.

The notice, published in yesterday's edition of The Standard newspaper on page 26, is directed to the 9th Interested Party, Mohamed Baa, pursuant to the court's order.

The matter is scheduled for mention before the High Court in Kisumu on 15 July 2026.

Our Trustee Tina Alai says compensation should not replace the pursuit of truth and accountability. She argues that the government must establish what happened, identify those responsible for the violations, and put in place measures to prevent a repeat of the abuses.

Speaking on Spice FM, Alai says transitional justice goes beyond financial compensation and should include mechanisms that deliver truth, justice, and accountability for victims.
