Meet Sheila Opiyo đź’ś

Advocacy Officer at Free a Girl's World Network, speaking at the input gathering session—where the focus went beyond talk to action.

The dialogue dug deep into the gap between policy promises and the lived realities of women and girls. A key spotlight was placed on the rights of women and girls with disabilities—addressing gender-based violence, access to reproductive health services, and meaningful participation in leadership.

These powerful conversations are shaping bold, evidence-based advocacy that drives real change.

We applaud Kenya Airways for launching the Ezesha program a powerful step toward inclusive travel for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and their aides.

Through discounted domestic and international flights, plus accessible airport transfer support, this initiative is opening doors and making travel easier, safer, and more dignified for our community.

At Free A Girls World Network, we encourage all PWDs to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity. Inclusion is not charity it is a right.

Thank you, Kenya Airways, for leading with accessibility and purpose. Together, we move further.

Our volunteer, Daniel Kithome, represented Free a Girl's World Network at a key engagement meeting organized by Wangu Kanja Foundation in partnership with the University of Birmingham.

The meeting focused on improving interviewing, documentation, and justice linkage for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence. Discussions highlighted gaps across health, security, and justice sectors and ways to strengthen survivor-centred approaches.

At FGWN, we are committed to ensuring our volunteers are well-trained and supported, because their skills and dedication are vital in advocating for survivors’ voice, protection, and agency.

On this International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we honour every girl and women who rises despite systems built without her in mind. Her journey is not defined by struggle alone, but by the determination to claim space where she was once unseen.

Today we celebrate her creativity, her voice, and her right to access every opportunity. A world that includes her fully is a world strengthened by her presence, her ideas, and her unstoppable potential.

A Proud Moment for Our Global Community

As Free a Girls World Network, we proudly joined Andy Speaks 4 Special need Person and fellow partners in celebrating the official launch of the NeuroREHub Web Portal & Mobile App a groundbreaking digital platform designed to transform how neurodivergent individuals and their families access care, information, and support.

Our staff and Volunteer gained so much insight from this milestone event. We engaged with experts, caregivers, and institutions committed to inclusion, and we experienced firsthand the power of collaboration when communities unite for a shared purpose.

This platform represents more than innovation it represents hope, access, and a future where no caregiver or child is left behind.

What NeuroREHub Offers:
• NEURO-AI Support: Personalised, reliable guidance on autism, neurodevelopment, therapy, education, and daily care.
• Global Caregiver Community: A safe and supportive space to learn, connect, and share lived experiences.
• Verified Services Directory: Schools, therapists, assistive technology providers, and support organisations in one accessible place.
• E-Learning & Knowledge Hub: Expert resources, training, podcasts, and practical tools available 24/7.
• Tele-Consultation Access: Direct linkage to clinicians and specialists for timely professional guidance.

For us at Free a Girls World Network, this experience reaffirmed our commitment to building safe, informed, and empowering spaces for every girl, every caregiver, and every family. We remain inspired and ready to champion inclusive digital solutions that uplift our communities globally.

Together, we move forward creating a world where care is accessible, compassionate, and always within reach.

World Dwarfism Awareness Day...

Today, Free a Girl’s World Network proudly joins the global community in marking World Dwarfism Awareness Day, celebrated here in Nairobi with passion, unity, and purpose.

We are honoured to stand alongside our board member Ruth Mueni, who has played a key role in organising this important event. Her leadership and commitment remind us why awareness, inclusion, and visibility matter every day in our society.

What is Dwarfism?
Dwarfism is a medical and genetic condition where a person has a shorter stature usually an adult height of 4 feet 10 inches (147 cm) or below. But beyond height, people with dwarfism live full, productive lives and contribute richly to our communities. Dwarfism does not define a person’s ability, dreams, or potential.

Why This Day Matters
In many communities, individuals with dwarfism face stereotypes, discrimination, and social barriers. Our role is to challenge these misconceptions and promote respect, dignity, and equal opportunities. Everyone deserves to be seen, valued, and heard.

Today’s celebration is a reminder that everybody is unique and every story matters.

As Free a Girl’s World Network, we reaffirm our commitment to creating safe, inclusive spaces where all individuals, regardless of height or disability, can thrive.

Let’s continue amplifying voices, breaking stigma, and celebrating diversity.
