From subsistence trading to independent business owner.

Meet Amina Katana from Mgandini Village, Kilifi County. As a young single mother, irregular income and limited capital made daily survival an uphill battle. But through the Youth in Sustainable Aquaculture (YISA) programme, her trajectory completely transformed.

Supported by Echo Network Africa Foundation (ENAF), Amina underwent intensive Business Development Services and Gender Action Learning System (GALS) training. Armed with a Revolving Loan Fund injection, she doubled her daily fish sales and is now building a permanent home for her family.

We are proud to work alongside our partners to dismantle barriers and elevate young women in Kenya's aquaculture sector.

Residents of Meru county unanimously agreed to honor one of their daughters, Dr Jennifer Riria by naming the only street leading to the populous shopping Centre in her name.

To mark this landmark decision, the community erected a sign post with the name of Dr Riria prominently displayed for all to see. The recognition was yet another reminder that service to humanity is service to God.

We at Echo Network Africa Foundation (ENAF) congratulate Dr Riria for this amazing recognition.

"To the brilliant students of Kibera Primary School, this mobile laboratory is your launch pad. The tools are now in your hands." - Dr. Jennifer Riria, President & CEO, ENAF. A look back at an incredible celebration of global Menstrual Hygiene Day!

Together with the Malaysian High Commission, we handed over our 18th Mobile Science Laboratory countrywide, proudly welcoming Nairobi as part of our 14-county footprint. From Murang’a to Marsabit, we are ensuring quality STEM learning is never limited by geography.

Building a "Period Friendly World" means protecting both a girl's biological dignity and her academic future. Through our Girls Excel Initiative, we continue to pair STEM access with dignity support. In this quarter alone, ENAF distributed 7,678 dignity kits to 3,855 girls, keeping them consistently in class and at the table of innovation.

Deep gratitude to the Malaysian High Commission for making this their second lab sponsorship alongside ENAF, continuing their amazing support after the Ngala School for the Deaf!

To mark , ENAF translated global climate goals into tangible community action by joining forces with local grassroots networks to plant 1,000 mangrove seedlings and conduct a massive beach clean-up across the vital Mida Creek ecosystem.

The successful field deployment, driven by ENAF’s Blue Economy and Climate Action Initiative, was executed in close partnership with the Jivunie Vi Smart (JIVIS) CBO, one of ENAF’s key Local Implementing Partners in Kilifi. The entire exercise was spearheaded directly by local custodians, including Mida Creek Beach Management Unit (BMU) Chair Maulid Ngana, Community Forest Association (CFA) Chair Twahir Kiraga, and Dabaso Mwanzo Mpya Group Leader Beatrice Ngundi, who mobilized local women’s groups to lead the restoration.

For the women of Kilifi, wading into the tidal mud to secure these seedlings is a matter of household survival. Many of these women are active actors in mariculture and coastal economies, depending directly on a healthy creek for their daily income and family well-being. By restoring the mangrove canopy, the community is actively protecting critical fish breeding grounds, reversing coastal erosion, and building long-term climate resilience against severe environmental shocks.

Parallel to the planting, the community-led beach clean-up tackled local sanitation and public health, proving that environmental protection and community health go hand in hand. By matching local leadership with institutional backing, this initiative stands as a prime example of how grassroots partnerships can turn climate policy into immediate, life-changing economic and ecological benefits.

On global Menstrual Hygiene Day, ENAF President & CEO Dr. Jennifer Riria partnered with the Malaysian High Commission to hand over our 18th Mobile Science Laboratory at Kibera Primary School, expanding our footprint to 18 under-resourced schools across 14 counties.

True STEM equity under the CBC curriculum requires a holistic approach. We cannot expect students to compete globally through theoretical learning, yet a girl cannot utilize a state of the art laboratory if period poverty forces her to stay at home. Through our Girls Excel Initiative, we pair STEM access with dignity support. This quarter alone, ENAF distributed 7,678 dignity kits to 3,855 girls to address school absenteeism.

Our deep gratitude goes to H.E. Ruzaimi Mohamad, the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Kenya, for this second lab sponsorship, following the Ngala School for the Deaf deployment. We invite corporate partners and policymakers to co-invest with us in building a sustainable pathway for girls in STEM.

"I am no longer afraid. I can now speak out and report any form of abuse. I know my rights." These powerful words from Edna , a fishmonger at Omena Beach in Busia County, mark the end of a long period defined by silence and systemic exploitation. Before this turnaround, Edna navigated a predatory beach environment and deep economic instability just to secure fish for her trade, constantly struggling to separate her business capital from daily household expenses.

Her trajectory completely shifted when Echo Network Africa Foundation (ENAF) stepped in to support Edna's informal savings group. Through formal registration as the Achievers Young Women Group and targeted vocational skilling, Edna received comprehensive training in financial literacy, entrepreneurship, kitchen gardening, and rights advocacy.

Today, Edna has transformed from a vulnerable trader into a diversified entrepreneur and a confident community leader. She has stabilized her family's finances by separating her funds, lowering food expenses with her kitchen garden, and generating a secondary income stream from homemade liquid soap. Beyond the balance sheet, she now stands as a vital role model at the beach, teaching record keeping to other women and actively working with local authorities to report gender based violence.
