Africa Q***r Youth Council (aQy - Council) was created in 2016 with the aim to empower LGBT youth to catalyze social change to effect social justice. This comes in place when the era of social justice among the LGBT community around the world have build strong presence in the struggle for equality regardless of one sexual orientation or identity. There is another reason to pay more attention to A
frica's youth, many analysts believe. With 200 million people aged between 15 and 24 (the youth bracket), Africa has the youngest population in the world. Findings also show that 1 in every 100 young people is q***r, meaning that around 2 million young people in Africa are q***r a force not to be wished away for African’s sustainable development agenda. Started as LGBT youth projects hub, Africa Q***r Youth Council formerly Q***r Youth Circle will now be an independent organization pursuing the same goals; empowering LGBT youth to catalyze social change by providing them with skills, contacts, opportunities and a world-wide community of like-minded people. The aQy - Council is comprised by talented youth that are innovating and bringing about change in many fields to better the lives of LGBT young people in Africa not as a key population but a people.
