Mike Muchilwa came on with this point and stayed on it the whole session.

"Donor funding is not the only way to fund your organisation. It is just the one everyone defaulted to."

He went through 16 income streams that organisations across Africa are already using special events, campaigns, social enterprises, real estate, endowment funds, consultancy, membership, cross-subsidies, government partnerships, private sector partnerships, beneficiary-led models.

Not concepts bt real organisations;
⚜️ The Mater Heart Run. Kenyans for Kenya raising $11.7 million.
⚜️ Bring Zack Home at $1.1 million.
⚜️ Former street children in Nairobi running a profitable toilet business.
⚜️ Red Cross running hotels and ambulance services.
⚜️ Caritas organisations across Africa owning guest houses and car rentals.
⚜️ KCDF generating income from investments.

The money is moving. The question is whether your organisation has built the structures to access it from more than one direction.

Most public institutions know the funding exists. What they don't know is how to navigate the legal and compliance pathway to actually access it.

Dr. Edwin Wanyonyi - Acting CEO of the Universities Fund and former Head of Resource Mobilisation at Kenya Wildlife Service, spent years figuring that out. This June, he shares what he knows.
