Today, on June 16, Windle International Kenya (WIK) in Kakuma in partnership with U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) joined students and staff of A.I.C. Songot Boys and Songot Girls Senior Schools in Lokichoggio Sub-County,to commemorate the (DAC) , a day dedicated to championing every child's right to education, dignity, protection, and opportunity.

The celebration translated these values into action through the distribution of 200 dignity kits to girls, alongside engaging sessions on menstrual health and hygiene, mental wellness, life skills, and strategies for academic success.

By addressing barriers that affect learning and well-being, we are empowering young people with the knowledge, confidence, and support they need to thrive in school and beyond.

Together, we continue to invest in a future where every African child can learn, lead, and reach their full potential.

Opportunity is reaching communities across Galmudug through the programme.

From 20 May – 3 June 2026, Windle International Somalia has been conducting community engagement and enrolment campaigns across Abudwak, Adaado, Galkacyo, Dhusamareb, and Guriceel, connecting young women and men with life-changing learning and skills opportunities.

The programme targets youth aged 15–35 years through literacy, numeracy, and market-driven TVET training pathways. Participants with limited literacy and numeracy skills are being enrolled in Non-Formal Education, while those with foundational education backgrounds are joining practical TVET courses designed to enhance employability and self-reliance.

The response from communities has been remarkable. While the programme aims to reach 7,000 beneficiaries (6,000 women and 1,000 men), enrolment has already surpassed expectations, with 9,889 beneficiaries registered — and registration is still ongoing.

Building resilience starts with listening to communities and investing in solutions that matter.

Through the ACTIVE Project, funded by the European Commission, Windle International Somalia, together with the Ministry of Water, Energy and Minerals, conducted field assessments in , , and to strengthen community-led infrastructure and livelihoods.

From assessing fish cooling facilities to support fishing communities in Bargaal, to evaluating shallow wells for rehabilitation and solarization in Bosaso and Mindigale, the mission laid the groundwork for interventions that can enhance food production, improve water access, and strengthen local value chains.

The visit also established and trained Community Project Implementation Units (CPIUs), ensuring communities remain at the center of implementation, accountability, and sustainability.

Lasting impact begins with local ownership.

Today, Windle International Kenya together with visited Mukarara Mixed Secondary School in County under the initiative, a programme focused on advancing access to secondary education and integrated skills development for adolescent girls.

The visit provided an opportunity to engage directly with learners, teachers, and school leadership on how interventions such as life skills training, participation, career guidance and mentorshipmentorship, menstrual hygiene and reproductive health, and digital skills development are helping address barriers that continue to affect girls’ education and retention in school.

Through conversations with students and teachers, the delegation also explored the realities of implementing Competency-Based Education (CBE), including the need for stronger infrastructure, improved learning facilities, and innovative low-cost digital solutions to strengthen STEM learning opportunities for girls.

Windle International Kenya & Somalia remains committed to supporting inclusive, safe, and relevant learning environments that empower girls with the skills, confidence, and opportunities they need to thrive in education and transition successfully into the world of work.

A new chapter begins in Galmudug, with the official launch of Raajo Kaaba Project in , bringing hope, opportunity, and possibility to women and youth across the region.

In a context where over half of women cannot read and many have never accessed formal education, this initiative is designed to change that.

Funded by the Bank and implemented by Windle International in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education (MoECHE) in Galmudug State, the project will reach over 7,000 women and youth across five districts with literacy, life skills, and vocational training.

But it doesn’t stop at training, participants will be supported with mentorship, apprenticeships, and pathways to employment and self-reliance.

Because when women and youth are equipped with skills, entire communities rise.
