In 2009, our founder Margaret looked at her small house in Nairobi and decided it was big enough to save lives.

When police who knew her social work in the community brought her abandoned children, she never said "no room." She just opened her heart wider and began our children's home — a safe haven for orphaned and vulnerable children from the Kayole-Soweto slums.

Today, Smile Community Centre Children's Home shelters 80+ children and runs a feeding program that supports over 300 children.

Thank you to the officers from Soweto Police Station for coming to support Smile Community Centre Children’s Home.

Located in the heart of Soweto, Kayole, the station plays a critical role in rescuing abandoned and vulnerable children and ensuring they reach safety in registered rescue centres and children’s homes like ours.

Some of the children in our care have parents in prison. For them, this home is not just support. It is the only safe place they have right now.

In the informal settlements of Nairobi, the gap between the rich and the poor keeps widening. Every day, more children in the slums face neglect, hunger, and danger. The number of cases continues to rise, and the need is urgent.

That is why Smile Community Centre exists. We do more than provide shelter. We provide their daily needs, medical support and education.

Because we are rooted in the community, we have earned trust. Many individuals and organizations visit and support us because they see the impact with their own eyes.

To all our well-wishers and supporters, thank you for standing with us. Your support helps us respond to emergencies, care for more children, and keep our doors open for those with nowhere else to go.

Two recent high school graduates from Smile Community Centre have completed web design training through partners supporting the Child Care Reform Kenya transition program.
Josephat and Titus finished the course and gained practical digital skills. Josephat also holds training in journalism.
We are proud of their progress as they prepare for independent life.
