The webinar strengthens grassroots youth capacity to engage in and access formal business and human rights decision-making spaces across Africa.

Prof. Damilola S. Olawuyi, UNESCO Chair on Environmental Law and Sustainable Development and Independent Expert with the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights, delivers the keynote on emerging trends and opportunities in the regional BHR agenda.

Sally Miruri, a Program Officer at Pamoja Trust, leads a skills-sharing session that grounds participants in BHR within local and Pan-African contexts and provides practical strategies for linking grassroots action to formal decision-making platforms.

A Consultative Forum on Peace, Social Cohesion, and Inclusive Community Governance was convened with Kamukunji residents to strengthen peaceful relations between refugees and host communities.

The meeting brought together representatives from Community Policing, religious institutions, Integration Champions, Nyumba Kumi, Community Health Promoters (CHPs), refugee and host community leaders, bodaboda and Jua Kali associations, youth representatives, and other influential community members.

Discussions focused on building trust, addressing misconceptions, and encouraging collaboration among community members. The forum's major outcome was a new Coordination Committee, mandated to guide refugee integration into existing governance structures and support peacebuilding efforts.

This week, the Integrated Peace Coordinators, with support from Pamoja Trust, held a Community Public Sensitisation and Awareness Forum in Kayole to strengthen peaceful coexistence between refugee and host communities.

The dialogue covered barriers refugees face in accessing public services, protection and security concerns, and misconceptions about refugee rights. Participants discussed practical solutions to improve access to services and build mutual understanding.

The forum brought the Assistant County Commissioner, Area Chief, Kayole Level 4 Hospital Facility Manager, Sub-County Administrator, Peace and Integration Committee leaders, Community Policing representatives, Community Health Promoters (CHPs), Nyumba Kumi representatives, Market Committee members, and refugee and host community members.

Stakeholders committed to tackling misinformation and strengthening the community partnerships that sustain peaceful coexistence.

We supported the Nairobi City County Care Mainstreaming Technical Working Group meeting, and we made sure refugee care work was on the agenda. Around 40 people, from the Nairobi County Department of Youth, other county departments, Youth Alive! Kenya, Wow Mom Kenya, refugee representatives, and other TWG members, sat down to review the county's Care Workplan.

Refugees in Nairobi do a huge amount of care work, often as their main means of survival. That's a subject we know deeply through our work in the city's informal settlements, and we used our seat at this table to push for it to be recognized in county policy, not left out of it.

Did you know unpaid care work in Kenya is valued at KES 2.54 trillion, about 23% of the country's GDP, and Nairobi women spend over 5x as much time on it as men? The Nairobi State of Care Report 2026 laid this out in black and white, and the county's new Care Workplan and Toolkit for Care Mainstreaming are the response.

This is what our Re:BUiLD programme is for: participating in the rooms where refugee inclusion gets decided, and bringing the expertise to make sure it actually gets discussed.

Pamoja Trust joined the Nairobi City County, Refugee Access to Work and Inclusion East Africa (RAWI-EA) Coalition and partners' inception meeting to set up the Thematic Coordination Units (TCUs) that will drive the Nairobi County Refugee Integration and Community Building Strategy (2025–2030).

The units cover five areas: Education & Skills Training, Trade & Enterprise, Health Care & Social Services, Community Engagement & Cultural Exchanges, and Legal Information & Enforcement. Each one will lead its part of the strategy's rollout across the county and provide strategic leadership to advance refugee inclusion and promote sustainable integration within Nairobi County.

Pamoja Trust is in this coalition for the community planning work and the land justice work, the pieces that decide whether refugees actually have a place in Nairobi's informal settlements, not just a policy on paper.

Pamoja Trust, together with DanChurchAid Kenya and the Centre for Education Policy and Climate Justice (CEPCJ ), has launched Financial Support to Third Parties (FSTP) under the EU-funded Cultivating Justice Project.

FSTP channels small grants to grassroots organisations, CSOs, CBOs and human rights and environmental defenders working closest to affected communities, so they can document corporate human rights abuses and help survivors access remedy.

A documented case of harm can support community advocacy, feed into legal action, strengthen non-judicial grievance mechanisms and preserve evidence for future accountability.

The project runs in Nairobi Metropolis, Nakuru and Nyandarua counties.
