The Convention brought together women and youth leaders, electoral stakeholders, civil society and other actors to examine the barriers affecting political participation and what must change before 2027. Discussions focused on electoral safety, political violence and technology-facilitated gender-based violence, preparedness of electoral institutions, political party processes, nominations, campaign financing and the need for stronger networks and intergenerational mentorship for women and young leaders.
Opening the Convention, KEWOPA Chairperson Hon. Leah Sankaire, Women Rep, Kajiado. called for reforms that remove the structural barriers facing women and youth.

In Teso South Constituency, KEWOPA, in partnership with the Institute of Public Finance (IPF), convened a two-day training that equipped women with practical skills in business planning and marketing, alongside knowledge on public participation, gender-responsive budgeting and gender-based violence.

The training led by Hon. Mary Otucho Emase, MP for Teso South Constituency, linked economic empowerment with meaningful participation in public decision-making. Participants explored market opportunities, product pricing, financial records, cash flow and business growth.
Hon. Emaase captured the importance of accountability and tracking progress: โ€œThat which you cannot measure cannot grow.โ€

The practical experiences shared reflected what access to capital, resilience and determination can achieve. From starting with second-hand clothes, a business owner shared how she had grown to selling new clothes in Nairobi, Kisumu and across the border in Uganda, with financial institutions helping provide capital for expansion.

Public participation and gender-responsive budgeting are equally important to this growth. When women understand how public resources are planned and allocated, they are better positioned to influence priorities, demand accountability and advocate for investments that respond to their needs.

Empowered women do not only grow businesses; they shape decisions, influence public resources and drive development in their communities.

Kenyans have been urged to end stigma and discrimination against people living with mental health conditions and improve access to support.
Speaking during a mental health and safety training for KEWOPA members, Dagoretti North MP, Hon. Beatrice Elachi CBS said stigma remains a major barrier to mental health care. She called for greater awareness and education to address misconceptions and encourage people to seek professional support.
The training, organised by KEWOPA in partnership with NIVISHE Foundation and Solidarity Alliance, focused on mental health as part of overall wellbeing. Participants discussed how prolonged stress, difficult experiences, social pressures and trauma can affect how people think, feel and function, and the importance of recognising changes early.
Women in public life can face added pressure from public scrutiny, social media criticism, demanding engagements and limited time for self-care. But mental health concerns affect everyone, including individuals, families, workplaces and communities.
Participants also practised grounding and resilience exercises to manage pressure, regain focus and create space for recovery.
