Driving Climate Resilience: Interagency World Environment Day Actions in Dadaab

On this (June 5th), FilmAid Kenya was proud to participate in a vital environmental ecosystem restoration initiative in the Dadaab refugee complex. 🌍📈

Recognizing that climate change disproportionately affects vulnerable regions, local and international partners united for a coordinated tree-planting exercise. This localized climate action was an interagency effort strategically led by the Relief Reconstruction and Development Organization (RDDO).

The event underscored the power of humanitarian collaboration, featuring key stakeholders including the Head of Sub-office, who joined humanitarian workers and community leaders on the ground to champion sustainable environmental management. 🛡️🌱

At FilmAid Kenya, we believe that documenting and participating in these environmental milestones is crucial for fostering community ownership and long-term climate adaptation.

Creativity, Talent, and Shared Horizons in Dadaab! 🌟🎨📸

Dadaab was bursting with creative energy as primary school learners from across Ifo, Ifo 2, Dagahaley, and Hagadera came together to showcase their incredible talents! From colorful cultural presentations and moving poetry to public speaking and drawing, the future looks incredibly bright.

A major highlight of the day was the stunning Photography Exhibition! As a key component of our collaboration with and other education partners under the PROSPECTS 2.0 partnership, this category gave young visual storytellers a platform to shine.

While the event targeted primary schools, the exhibition featured breathtaking work from both primary and secondary school film clubs, proudly represented by:
🔹 Bidii (Hagadera)
🔹 Illeys (Dagahaley)
🔹 Friends (Ifo)

FilmAid Kenya was honored to support the event and participate directly in the adjudication process alongside our partners. A massive shoutout to the dedicated focal teachers and our FAK Media Hub Assistants who walked side-by-side with these brilliant students to make this day a resounding success! 🎞️💪

With support from we are proud to continue expanding access to media equipment and nurturing digital storytelling skills across Dadaab.

Empowering the mentors who champion our future storytellers! 🎓🎬✨

Behind every creative student is a dedicated teacher cheering them on. We recently held a specialized Training of Trainers (ToT) capacity-building session for the incredible teachers who oversee our school film clubs!

This initiative is all about giving our educators a deep understanding of the program's purpose, objectives, and long-term impact. By equipping them with the right tools, knowledge, and mentorship skills, we are ensuring they can effectively guide their students through the world of visual storytelling. 📸🏫

When we invest in our teachers, we secure the sustainability of these film clubs, ensuring that creative spaces remain open for students to find their voices year-round! 🌟

Period stigma? Let’s screen it out! 🩸📚✨
For World Menstrual Hygiene Day, we took a bold step toward ending the silence at Friends Primary School in Ifo. We hosted a special film screening that addressed the deeply rooted taboos and stigma surrounding menstruation.
But we didn't stop at the screen. The film was paired with an interactive community engagement session where students, teachers, and community members openly discussed Menstrual Health Hygiene (MHH). The audience was sensitized on the vital need for menstrual dignity and trained on the proper use and disposal of sanitary products. 🧼🌸
Periods are a normal part of life, and no girl should ever have to miss school or feel ashamed because of them.
A huge thank you to for supporting this program and helping us champion dignity, education, and health for young girls in Ifo! 💪❤️

Last weekend, our FilmAid Kenya staff swapped their notebooks and cameras for football boots to face off against members of the refugee and host communities in a thrilling friendly match!

Life in the arid refugee camps can be demanding, but it’s these exact moments of shared joy, laughter, and friendship that make it so vibrant, exciting, and unforgettable.

Big shoutout to everyone who came out to play and cheer! This is just the beginning—more matches are coming soon. 🏆✨

We brought together our media training classes in Dadaab and Kakuma for a joint virtual session on Directing, led by an established Kenyan film director Davis Nato.

Supported by the Golden Globe Foundation , the class in Kakuma and Dadaab all focus on equipping the trainees with the skills to tell their own stories. The session created an exciting space for learning, exchange, and connection, giving learners from both camps the opportunity to engage with industry expertise while getting to know one another.

Stories become stronger when creatives learn and connect with each other.

Building Institutional Capacity:

At FilmAid Kenya, we recognize that teachers and coaches are the frontline guardians of a child's development. We recently concluded a comprehensive Take 5 ToT session designed to strengthen the capacity of educators to foster healthy and safe learning environments.

The training focused on:
🛡️ Child Safeguarding: Implementing practical safety protocols.
🌱 Holistic Well-being: Creating supportive spaces for social and emotional growth.
🤝 Inclusive Coaching: Ensuring every child, regardless of background, has a seat at the table.

By training the trainers, we are ensuring the sustainability of these high standards across all the schools and clubs we support. A safe classroom is the foundation for every child’s success.
