Elimu Connect magazine is produced by FilmAid Kenya's Creative Content Team, the storytellers behind every frame, photo, and interview in these pages. Their work follows education wherever it happens: in classrooms, on film sets, in art workshops, and in everyday life across Kakuma and Kalobeyei. For this community, learning never really stops at the school gate.

Each story here reflects that belief that youth voices shouldn't just be captured, they should be shaped into stories that matter. From concept to final cut, this team represents a growing generation of storytellers using media to document, teach, and inspire.

We were honored to host an ECHO Monitoring Mission in Dadaab, with the active participation of representatives from the European Union.

​During this vital mission, the delegation walked through various project sites to see our ongoing interventions up close. More importantly, they spent time listening directly to implementing partners and the beneficiaries we serve. These open conversations offered an incredible opportunity to:
​🔍 Gain first-hand insights into day-to-day project operations.
​🗣️ Hear directly from community members about their lived experiences.
​📊 Discuss achievements, navigate challenges, and share critical lessons learned.

​Visits like these are the backbone of sustainable programming. They provide a powerful platform for learning, allowing us to showcase the amazing progress made while co-creating strategies to strengthen future collaboration!

On World Refugee Day, we really get to celebrate the diversity of cultures that Kenya hosts in the refugee camps. Refugees come out en mass to showcase, learn and exchange traditions, skills, art and everything else embodied in culture.

Culture and identity are inséparable from these individuals. They remember their heritage and ways of life even in the camps.

Day of the African Child 2026. Ifo Refugee Camp, Dadaab

On June 16, the Day of the African Child was commemorated under the theme “Ensuring universal access to water, sanitation, and hygiene for every child in Africa.” The event in Dadaab’s Ifo Refugee Camp brought together UNHCR, the Danish Refugee Council, and partners including and not limited to Save the Children, TDH, LWF, Windle International Kenya, and World Vision.

FilmAid Kenya joined other agencies in marking the day with music, dance, and exhibitions. Students from schools where FilmAid, with support from UNICEF Prospects partnership UNICEF KENYA, runs film clubs and photography classes documented the event. These are among the photos taken by them. Their photo exhibition was also a highlight of the creativity and resilience of children and young people in the camps. There were music performances, dance, Participatory Educational Theatre, games, facepaintig and a whole lot more.

​We took to the airwaves for a special talkback session in collaboration with Windle International Kenya under the Teachwell program!

​We were joined by the Principal of Ifo Secondary School for an important discussion on Grade 10 enrollment. As we navigate the transition from Junior to Senior School, our focus is clear: ensuring every student has the information and support they need to continue their educational journey. 🎓📈

​The Principal shared invaluable insights on why this transition is a critical milestone for our learners and how parents, teachers, and the community can work together to ensure no student is left behind.

This World Food Safety Day and throughout the week of action that led us here joined in commemorating World Food Safety Weeks with an array of activities including, radio session to amplify community voices on what food safety means at the ground level.

This year's theme says it all: From Burden to Solutions. And solutions start with people who are listened to. Happy World Food Safety Day
