Our hearts are heavy following the tragic fire at Utumishi Girls Academy. We mourn with the families who lost their children, pray for the healing of those injured, and stand with the entire school community during this painful time.

As Beyond the Vision Initiative, this tragedy speaks deeply to us because we are also an education provider, and we continue to dream of building a boarding school where children are not only educated, but fully protected. School safety must never be treated as a formality. Dormitories must meet government safety standards, emergency systems must work, supervision must be intentional, and every child must be accounted for and cared for.

But safety is also emotional. Learners need safe spaces to express fear, anger, pressure, conflict, and pain before these emotions become crises. Through our Safer Schools Mental Health Program, we continue to support schools in building environments where children are listened to, guided, and helped to communicate emotions positively and resolve conflict safely.

May the children we lost rest in peace. May the injured heal. And may this tragedy remind all of us that a truly safe school protects the body, mind, and heart of every learner.

Beyond the Vision Initiative at the Mental Wellness Expo 2026

We are pleased to announce that Beyond the Vision Initiative will be exhibiting our Safer Schools Mental Health Program at the upcoming Mental Wellness Expo, taking place on 8th and 9th May 2026 at Sarit Expo Centre.

We are also proud that our Mental Health Lead, Vivian Ooro, Counseling Psychologist at Beyond the Vision Initiative, will be part of the expert panel discussion on:

“From Anxiety to Addiction: Forms of Mental Health Issues & the Link to Drug Abuse”
Friday, 8th May 2026
2:30pm – 3:30pm

At BVI, we believe that schools must be more than places of learning. They must be safe spaces where learners are seen, heard, protected, and supported. Through our Safer Schools Mental Health Program, we continue to provide preventive mental health education, psychosocial support, teacher engagement, and safe spaces for learners across schools in underserved communities.

This expo gives us an important platform to share our work, learn from other mental wellness practitioners, and build partnerships that can help us scale mental health support to more schools.

We warmly invite partners, schools, parents, mental health professionals, corporates, and friends of BVI to visit our booth, engage with our team, and explore how we can work together to make schools safer and more supportive for every child.

Come meet us at Sarit Expo Centre on 8th and 9th May 2026.
Together, we can make mental wellbeing a shared responsibility.

Scaling Mental Wellness in Schools | Partnership Opportunity

Across many informal settlements, schools are expected to deliver academic outcomes without the systems needed to support mental health, safety, and wellbeing. The result is a silent barrier to learning, retention, and long-term opportunity for thousands of children.

At Beyond the Vision Initiative, we are addressing this gap through our Safer Schools Program — a school-based, preventive mental health model.

📊 Current Reach:
We are working with 20+ schools, reaching over 2,000 learners every week, equipping schools to become safe, supportive environments where children can thrive.

Our approach focuses on:

- Embedding preventive mental health education within schools
- Training teachers in safeguarding and psychosocial support
- Strengthening whole-school systems for safety and wellbeing
- Engaging parents and communities for sustainable impact
🚀 What’s Next

We are now seeking to scale this model to 100+ schools by 2027, and we are looking for the right partners to make this possible.

🤝 For CSR & ESG Leaders

This is an opportunity to invest in:

- Measurable, community-level impact
- Education, mental health, and child protection outcomes
- A scalable, systems-driven model
- Authentic, high-quality impact storytelling and brand alignment

This short video offers a glimpse into the model and what we will be showcasing at the Mental Wellness Expo (8–9 May, Sarit Expo Centre, Nairobi).

This pictures speaks into our impact. It's a proud moment for the BVI ecosystem. A participant.of our programs can now run them.. She has participated in almost all our programs, experienced the impact first hand and is now a volunteer as she awaits University admission.

Her passion comes from a place of deep understanding and appreciation. It's her way of saying 'Thank you for being part of my journey' and her wanting to be part of our journey of breaking cycles of generational poverty in communities.

For those that have directly impacted her life, Thank you. And for those that want to join us in this journey - You're welcome to the 'Change squad'. Visit our website www.beyondthevisioninitiative.org

From beneficiary to changemaker.

She first walked into the Beyond the Vision Community School as a Class 6 learner, full of potential but facing the realities many children in informal settlements know too well. Through our scholarship program, she transitioned to high school with the support she needed to stay in school, grow, and dream beyond her circumstances.

Today, she has come full circle.

She is now a Beyond the Vision Initiative Ambassador, actively giving back through our youth engagement program and walking alongside the next generation as a volunteer.

Her story is a reminder of what long-term, consistent investment in a child can do.

This is not just impact. This is transformation.

During a recent Jikimu Kimaisha session under Street Business School Module 2, one participant articulated a critical insight on business viability.

She explained that before selecting a business idea, she would first conduct market research focused specifically on the challenges faced by existing businesses in that location.

Her reasoning was strategic: understanding common barriers, whether high competition, fluctuating demand, operational costs, regulatory requirements, or seasonal vulnerabilities enables more informed decision-making. By analysing what is constraining others, she can determine which business model is most likely to survive and generate stable income.

This level of analysis reflects the core objective of Jikimu Kimaisha.

We are not promoting entrepreneurship as an abstract aspiration. We are strengthening economic decision-making capacity. Participants are trained to assess risk, evaluate market realities, and position their enterprises intentionally within fragile economic ecosystems.

Sustainable livelihoods are built on informed choices.

Jikimu Kimaisha continues to equip women with the analytical tools necessary to launch and grow viable, resilient micro-enterprises.

Coaching in action.

Our Jikimu Kimaisha business coach visited one of our entrepreneurs at her roasted maize stand right where business happens. They reviewed sales, pricing, and daily profit. They discussed challenges and practical adjustments.

Because training starts the journey.
Coaching sustains it.

We are committed to walking alongside the women we serve, building confidence, discipline, and income stability step by step.

This is how livelihoods grow.
This is how communities transform.
