It is the UN Day again. A year ago (2023), I was here at the United Nations Information Service Nairobi with Mikoko pamoja project as we received the UN Person of the Year Award with Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute.
Today, I accompanied my Cabinet Secretary for Ministry of Information, Communications & The Digital Economy KE , Dr Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u as she graced the commemoration of the 79th anniversary of the United Nations held today at the UN Headquarters in Gigiri, Nairobi.

The CS congratulated the UN family in Kenya for the numerous strides and vital operations that cascade to humanitarian, environmental and habitation and other key areas. Further noting that Kenya is firmly committed to supporting the UN office in Nairobi.

“As we commemorate United Nations Day 2024, let us reaffirm our commitment to localizing the Pact for the Future in a way that benefits all Kenyans, all Africans and, all global citizens,” the CS said.
She emphasized the importance of fostering intergenerational dialogue to facilitate collaboration in localizing the Pact for the Future—an ambitious vision aimed at ensuring inclusivity in a rapidly evolving world. Anchored by the Global Digital Compact and the Declaration on Future Generations, this initiative reflects the UN's commitment to driving a sustainable and inclusive digital transformation while prioritizing the needs and voices of future generations.
Also in attendance was the Director General of the UN Office at Nairobi Ms Zainab Hawa Bangura who delivered a message from UN Secretary-General António Guterres, that indicated the UN was built by the world for the world, “it has been a place for countries to unite, provides solutions that ease tensions, build bridges and forge peace.”

Remarkably, the UN Resident Coordinator in Kenya Mr. Stephen Jackson and CS Ndung’u presented Kipeto Energy PLC, the UN in Kenya Person of the Year award for their outstanding performance in the energy sector.
The Director of the UN Information Service in Nairobi, Ms. Sandra Macharia, and members of the Diplomatic Corps were present at the event.
