Yesterday, on International Youth Day 2026, The Sisterhood Project moderated the session covered by the YSO Consortium at Mageuzi Hub for a high-level plenary on Empowering Young People for Democratic Participation and Accountable Leadership, represented by our Director, Chepkoech Towett
The panel didn't stay at the surface. It unpacked the systemic legal barriers and campaign financing constraints that keep young people especially young women out of political party structures and decision-making spaces. It also confronted a threat too often left out of these conversations: Technology Facilitated GBV and political intimidation as tools used to silence young leaders, particularly young women, in digital civic spaces.
The message was clear: young people are already driving civic accountability. What's missing is access to fair electoral playing fields, to party structures, to the table itself. Inclusion without access is just tokenism.
Grateful to our panelists and every young leader who came ready to ask hard questions. The work now is structural reform โ and we're staying in it.
