"It's a waste of taxpayers' money kufunga belt ya 1 million kwa waist." Oyamo Richard narrates the state of civic space in Kenya. 👇

Kenya stands at a pivotal moment. The erosion of civic space threatens its democratic fabric, but youth-led innovation and civil society’s resilience provide hope.

As Felicity Mudis narrates, "Itabidi kila mtu amebeba tofali, kokoto, na mchanga, ilitujenge a future where haki zetu ziko upheld vile constitution inasema."

Yesterday, Enkakenya Sidai Initiative, together with its partners, successfully convened the Kajiado County Livestock and Fodder Market Systems Dialogue under the theme:

“Strengthening Resilience, Commercialization, Inclusive Markets, Governance and Rights in the Livestock and Fodder Sectors.”

The dialogue brought together livestock keepers, pastoralist communities, fodder producers, technical experts, government representatives, private-sector actors, development partners and other key stakeholders to examine the opportunities and challenges shaping Kajiado County’s livestock and fodder sectors.

Discussions focused on climate-smart livestock and fodder production, animal health, drought preparedness, sustainable rangeland management, fodder commercialization, access to finance and insurance, stronger producer organizations, inclusive market systems, and the protection of producers’ rights.

The forum also provided an important platform for strengthening collaboration among producers, buyers, service providers, financial institutions and policymakers. Through the PPDP for Inclusive Decent Employment and Productive Livelihoods Programme, ForumCiv is working closely with Enkakenya Sidai Initiative to strengthen sustainable livestock and fodder production systems in Kajiado County. Yesterday, Jackson Obare joined Marie Ottosson, Head of Development Cooperation at the Embassy of Sweden in Nairobi, for a talk show reflecting on the Wajibu Wetu Programme as it comes to a close.

Implemented by ForumCiv with funding from the Embassy of Sweden in Nairobi, Wajibu Wetu has supported Kenyan civil society actors to advance democracy, human rights, accountability and inclusive governance.

Over the years, the programme has strengthened civil society organizations, empowered citizens to participate in democratic processes, amplified the voices of women, young people and marginalized communities, and fostered collaboration between communities, media, public institutions and civil society.

As the programme comes to an end, we celebrate the partnerships, knowledge and momentum built through Wajibu Wetu. ForumCiv remains committed to supporting locally led efforts that strengthen democratic governance and promote inclusive, sustainable development in Kenya.
