Problem
Youth form 75 percent of Kenya’s population and 22 percent being between the ages of 15 to 24 years. Every year, 500,000 young Kenyans enter the job market from schools, colleges and universities. Only about 25% are absorbed, leaving 75% to bear the burden of unemployment. As a result most youth are idle with no meaningful opportunities to engage their energy in response, some of these yo
uths turn to criminal behavior, violence, substance abuse, and commercial s*x work. These activities have negative repercussions on the young people themselves and contribute to growing physical insecurity for society as a whole. Solution
To solve this social problem, Volunteers With Passion (VWP) brings together youth to contribute their time, energy, skills and share their experiences in order to improve the lives and standards of the less fortunate. We provide an opportunity and a platform for youths to give back to the community. We are inspired by the conviction that volunteerism can transform the living standards of less privileged in the society since everyone can contribute their time and energy in providing services to the poor and those in need. We believe that through volunteerism we can engage the youths in productive activities thus reduce various challenges such as crime, drug abuse, unemployment and poverty. Everyone can contribute their time, skills and knowledge through volunteer actions and their combined efforts can be a significant force for empowering communities in the marginalized and disadvantaged areas. Through partnerships with the government, non-profit and private sector organizations, development partners and well-wishers, we implement various activities and programs that help identify and engage youths, students and professionals in community service, development and empowerment.
