The event culminated in an exciting pitch session, where participants presented their biobased innovations to investors and a panel of industry experts. The insightful feedback they received will help strengthen their innovations and move them closer to commercialisation.

The second week of BioInnovate Africa Programme's 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽 (𝗕𝗜𝗘𝗕𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲) took participants into the field in Arusha, Tanzania. The bootcampers engaged with diverse organisations and learned from their experiences, including A-to-Z Group, The Nelson Mandela African Institute of Science and Technology - Arusha, the East African Community (EAC), and Envsol Technology Limited. These engagements provided valuable insights into how these different sectors can come together to advance a thriving bioeconomy in Africa.

During this first week of the bootcamp, participants have gained skills in customer discovery, value proposition development, go-to-market strategies, navigating regulatory pathways, financial planning, intellectual property options, investor engagement, and pitch preparation.

Through mentorship, hands-on learning, and collaboration, the bootcamp is building the skills and confidence needed to develop sustainable, market-ready solutions that can drive Africa's growing .

This week, BioInnovate Africa Programme kicks off the second edition of the Biobased Innovation and Entrepreneurship Bootcamp (BIEB), bringing together 15 competitively selected masters and Ph.D. students and graduates from eastern Africa.

The bootcamp is designed to help participants transform their biobased ideas into investable propositions while deepening their understanding of the regional policies that support bioeconomy growth across the East African Community (EAC). Africa’s rich can be harnessed into solutions for some of the continent’s most pressing challenges.

Prof. Patrick Ogwang, a respected and renowned in and beyond, is at the forefront of medicinal plant–based innovations addressing a range of diseases, including COVIDEX for the treatment of COVID-19. He also serves as co-Principal Investigator of a BioInnovate Africa Programme supported project that is developing biobased supplements to Artemisinin-based combination therapies for malaria treatment.
