And then it was time for the football action.

At the recently concluded Inclusive TechRun, the Black Albinism team took to the pitch for a friendly match against fellow participants of the run.

After a spirited contest filled with tackles, fouls, and hard knocks, the game ended in a well-fought 0–0 draw.

We extend our sincere thanks to the organisers for hosting us and including us in the day’s programme.

We remain open and enthusiastic about participating in more activities like these, please do not hesitate to invite and include us in future engagements.

On 1st March, colleagues at the British High Commission celebrated World Wheelchair Day in style.

The Inclusive Tech Run brought together athletes with diverse disabilities and their supporting communities for a first-of-its-kind event that championed accessibility and inclusion in sports.

On the sidelines, innovative tech solutions supporting access, inclusion, and independent living were showcased, demonstrating the power of technology to break down barriers.

The albinism community participated in the run, embodying the true spirit of sport unity, determination, and celebration of diversity.

A heartfelt thank you to all the partners who made this historic day a success.

The GDS Inclusion Cup was an inclusive football tournament that brought together teams of persons with diverse disabilities to actively demonstrate and “live” the principles of the Global Disability Summit (GDS) commitments through sport.

At the final whistle, Nairobi Titans FC and Nairobi Titans Queens emerged as the overall winners of the tournament.

Match Results

Women’s Playoffs
Cerebral Palsy Queens 2–10 Nairobi Titans Queens
Amputee Queens 0–1 Black Albinism Queens

Women’s Final
Nairobi Titans Queens 2–0 Black Albinism Queens

Men’s Playoffs

Congratulations to the winners and to all the teams that participated in the tournament. The GDS Inclusion Cup demonstrated the power of sport as a platform for inclusion, visibility, and unity. We look forward to hosting another edition next year to continue celebrating inclusion through sport.

On 13 December, we hosted the GDS Inclusion Cup as part of our ongoing efforts to localise Kenya’s Global Disability Summit (GDS) commitments through inclusive and community-driven approaches.

Over the past five months, we have been implementing the project “Localizing 2025 Kenya’s GDS Commitments through Inclusive Guidelines, Media, and County Engagement” in collaboration with and with funding support from Global Disability Inclusion.

Following our engagement with county governments during the International Day of Persons with Disabilities celebrations on 3 December, the next critical step was to engage Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), and what better way to do this than through sport.

The tournament brought together teams representing diverse disability communities, including:

Persons with albinism, competing as:
• Black Albinism FC
• Black Albinism Queens

Players who are Deaf, competing as:
• Nairobi Titans FC
• Nairobi Titans Queens

Players of short stature, competing as:
• The Lion Stars

Players with cerebral palsy, competing as:
• Cerebral Palsy Kings
• Cerebral Palsy Queens

Players with limb loss, with both male and female amputee football teams participating.

Beyond the matches, participants engaged in discussions on their role in localising the GDS commitments. Each team also received copies of the localisation and monitoring toolkits developed to support tracking and implementation of the commitments at the county level.

In subsequent posts, we will be sharing the scores and highlights from the entire tournament.

On 5 December, the Kenya Paraplegic Organisation (KPO) held a Validation Workshop for the Nairobi City County Civic Education Bill 2025, a bill aimed at strengthening public access to information and enhancing participation in county governance.

In attendance were the Culture and Community Services Committee Chairperson, Hon. Clarence Munga, MCA Kabiro Ward, KPO leadership, Madam Elssie Mulindi, OPD leaders, and other officials from the Nairobi County Assembly.

Our Team Lead, Alan Herbert, participated in the workshop and presented our recent work on the GDS Localising Toolkits, highlighting how these tools also require robust civic education for effective understanding and uptake.

Alan later engaged participants directly, walking them through the toolkits, distributing physical copies, and sharing scannable QR codes for easy digital access.

Together, we can ensure that Kenya’s GDS commitments become a lived reality for all.

Over the past two weeks, we have engaged county officials, including CECMs, Chief Officers of Gender and Inclusivity, and NCPWD county representatives across four counties to support the localisation of Kenya’s GDS commitments using our inclusive toolkits.

Now, it’s time to engage OPDs, and what better way to do that than through sport?

Join us this Saturday, 13 December 2025, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Parklands Sports Club for the GDS Inclusion Cup as we play the Commitments to Live the Inclusion.

We will have both male and female teams made up of:
• Persons with albinism
• Players who are Deaf
• Players with limb loss (Amputee)
• Players of short stature
The competition will be exciting, diverse, and full of energy!

Throughout the event, our GDS Champions will be on the ground sharing information, tools, and resources on the GDS commitments and the localisation toolkits.

You don’t want to miss this day of inclusion, awareness, and fun.

See you there!

This past week, on 3rd December, we joined the world in marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

As Black Albinism, we honoured this day by launching two important tools and several new resources designed to fast-track the localisation of Kenya’s Global Disability Summit (GDS) commitments.

Our county advocates led the launch across three regions:
Zippie Ntinini – Kajiado County
Jerriter Mutinda – Machakos County
James Kibaki – Nairobi County

Today, we are excited to share these resources with you as well:

During this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we proudly unveiled the Inclusive Counties: Practical Guidelines for Localizing Kenya’s 2025 Global Disability Summit (GDS) Commitments—a crucial tool designed to help county governments translate national promises into real, on-the-ground inclusion.

These guidelines provide counties with step-by-step directions on how to embed GDS commitments into planning, budgeting, service delivery, and accountability processes. From strengthening OPD participation to ensuring inclusive health, education, employment, and social protection systems, the toolkit equips counties with everything they need to move from intention to implementation.

In a powerful moment of leadership, Senator Crystal Asige officially handed over the toolkit to key Nairobi County officials, including:

Rosemarry Kariuki, CECM, Gender and Inclusivity
Jane Gichure, Nairobi City County Government
Maryam Dabir, Chief Officer, Gender and Inclusivity

Their commitment to advancing disability inclusion at the county level is a strong signal that Kenya is ready to take tangible steps toward fulfilling its GDS promises.

As we continue this journey, we call on all counties to embrace these guidelines, deepen collaboration with OPDs, and ensure that no one is left behind in the push toward fully inclusive local governance.
