Climate action is most effective when communities are at the centre of the solution.
Through the Waste Wise Nairobi – Korogocho Chapter Project, 29 waste-picker community-based organizations have strengthened their capacity through training in governance, financial management, and waste segregation.
The project has also supported the construction of Korogocho Mrf Cbo Material Recovery Facility for recyclable waste and piloting Black Soldier Fly technology to improve organic waste management.
For Geoffrey, a waste picker and the chairman of the umbrella association managing Korogocho Mrf Cbo facility, the impacts of climate change are already evident through unpredictable rainfall patterns and recurrent flooding. He sees sustainable waste management as a practical response that benefits both the environment and public health.
By investing in circular economy solutions and community leadership, we can create cleaner neighbourhoods, improve livelihoods, and strengthen climate resilience.
