LANDLSIDE IN SIMIT, SOY NORTH WARD

Soy North, particularly the people of Simit, Sogom and Kapsiekwa, have witnessed first hand the wrath of mother nature. This is Enoo River which broke its banks owing to debris from landslides that caused huge damages sweeping away Coffee Farms.

The unchecked destruction of Kipkaptum Hill and the unwarranted construction of the Cherota - Simit Road have now people living in fear of a major disaster. Fault lies have appeared along the escarpment from Muskut to Sego Sublocations.

The failure to observe the Limits of Spencer Lines and the destruction of forest covering the Hill particularly by people living in the Highlands is predisposing the lives of thousands of people to risk. The Ministry of Environement & County Government of Elgeyo should immediately implement the Spencer Line and cause rehabilitation of the Escarpment to avoid further losses. The people affected by the landslide need reparations to restore their livelihoods.

SIMIT RESIDENTS IN SOY NORTH WARD OBJECT CONSTRUCTION OF CHEROTA- SIMIT ROAD

Not so long ago, the people of Simit lost a number of people to landslides with thousands of coffee bushes destroyed owing to attempted construction of Cherota - Simit Road through a place known as Koisoen. Years later, despite the losses, the residents received NO compensation.

The Merchants are it again wanting to endanger the lives of the residents of the hanging valley. Despite objections from the residents, we are reliably informed that the tenderprenuers are pushing for the construction instead of using the money to repair the Motorable Simit - Chororget Road.

The residents have threatened to move to Court should their demands not be heard.
