Recently under the Mother Tree at the Children’s Meeting Place in UNEP, we had the pleasure of exhibiting some environmental artwork by children. It is meant to entertain even as it calls attention to the now constant violation of their universal and constitutional right to a clean and healthy environment. Responsible environmental behavior by each one of us would restore our surroundings to what God gave us in Genesis 1: 31. Please share to create awareness and trigger the right action by all. Article 69 over our constitution demands that.

At the Children’s Meeting Place under the Mother Tree within UN grounds in Gigiri. Here at the Place set aside for children 25 years ago, we have met several times with UN officials including on the fateful 9/ 11 when the twin towers were brought down and with the great Professor Wangari Maathai. On Monday the 21st on September, children from various places, shall gather there again to air their views about their environment. May God's favor be upon them.

I once requested a young driver to considerate of pedestrians when parking his vehicle on the shoulders of the Eastern Bypass. As is the case with many other roads across our nation, pedestrian well being is not assured. Crossing the Eastern Bypass, a dual carriageway without bumps or footbridges, is no child's play. Indeed children can not and do not cross it alone. This in spite of road designs which I believe must incorporate the safety of non motorized users and more so, human traffic. I'm informed that pedestrians make up the bigger percentage in road injuries and fatalities. The young driver asked me, "Why are you walking?" Maybe that is why most of our roads are deadly deathtraps.
Many policy and decision influencers, do not walk. Some just fly around. That notwithstanding, roads must not be declared complete until they ARE. They are not complete until they are safe for all users including pedestrians. How are roads in your side of this nation? Please let us highlight this problem. Include photos where possible.

Last week before school opened, we spent a day at CER place learning how to protect our environment. We learned that a clean and healthy environment is a right according to Article 42 of our constitution and that Article 69 holds us all responsible for making it clean and healthy. We also learned that Article 70 allows any one to apply to a court for legal remedy if we feel that this right is being violated or is about to be violated, with needing to prove personal loss or injury. In other words, don't wait until the damage happens! Let us spread awareness about this right, play our role in making our environment clean and healthy and demand its enforcement by the relevant authorities. Because "It is, it was and it must remain, a beautiful world🌎

CER's "WACKY GAMES for the environment"are coming up on Saturday 10th October 2026 from 9 am to 1pm. Look out for venue and other details in all social media handles. Participants will take part in unusual, fun environmentally themed games and challenges while corporates, entrepreneurs, government agencies, NGOs, schools and other institutions will have opportunities to rent stalls to exhibit, showcase and market their products, services, innovations and environmental initiatives. The event will highlight environmental degradation and also recognize and present awards to participants for environmental credits earned through demonstration of outstanding Responsible Environmental Behavior (REB) on the day or incorporation of environmental considerations in their operations.

I can't help feeling emotional about the environment that our children are born into. The environment is everything that they see, touch, hear, smell, feel and even taste. They can not get away from it. In 2022, UN's general assembly adopted Resolution 76/300 which formally recognized a clean, healthy and sustainable environment as a human right. In Kenya, Article 42 of the constitution gives everyone the right to a clean and healthy environment. But Article 69, holds everyone responsible for achieving that clean and healthy environment. Here at CER, we believe that together we can return our environment to that original clean and healthy state which God looked at after creation and "IT WAS GOOD!" (!Genesis 1:31)
It is, it was and it must remain a beautiful world.

On World Environment Day, the 5th of June 2026 we planted trees at the alumni forest in my Alma Mater, Martin Luther Primary School in Makadara. We also engaged in cleaning up the school field and spreading environmental awareness with the very enthusiastic environment club members. You too can call us to establish an alumni forest with you at your primary school.
