We convened women, youth, and county CSO networks in Turkana, Kitui, Kilifi, and Kwale counties to draft and review their annual advocacy plans. Key issues prioritized included drug and substance abuse, the high prevalence of school dropouts, and rising mortality rates. We convened women and youth networks in Turkana, Kwale, Kilifi and Kitui to unpack CSO compliance issues with regulators- from PBO Authority, CGR Act, returns to KRA and other relevant agencies that regulate CSOs. Sessions also provided chance for the networks to validate their self regulations. Building stronger accountable, and trusted organizations. Compliance and self-regulation is not a barrier but a mechanism to defend civic space and unlock funding opportunities that strengthens CSOs' sustainability. PEN Kenya is on the ground in Kilifi, Kwale, and Turkana, supporting youth and women CSO networks to embrace self-regulation as a pathway to stronger, more credible citizen organizations. Through the Self-Regulation Framework, young people and women leaders are building accountability, trust, and resilience within their networks, enhancing their ability to serve communities effectively and sustainably.
Strong CSOs are built from within. When youth and women-led organizations practice self-regulation, they not only strengthen their own governance but also amplify their voice, legitimacy, and impact. Lead with integrity and regulate yourself before others do. UNDP Kenya, Civic Freedoms Forum
