World Environment Day Build-Up Activities Update – Trans Nzoia County
_Led by KPCG Member, Monar CBO_

As part of the build-up activities for World Environment Day 2026, the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service, KEPHIS Kitale Branch, donated 20,000 tree seedlings to support county-wide reforestation efforts.

Progress to date:

1. 10,000 seedlings have been distributed to five sub-counties across Trans Nzoia County. The distribution targeted community groups, farmers, and institutions to increase green cover during the build-up period from 28th May to 4th June 2026.

2. An additional 10,000 seedlings are scheduled for planting at Kipkekei Primary School, Cherangany Sub-County. This activity will involve pupils, teachers, and community members to promote environmental stewardship among learners.

The initiative is coordinated by the Trans Nzoia County Environmental Committee, with Monar CBO contributing as a KPCG member representing farmers. The tree-planting drive aligns with the World Environment Day message of collective action for environmental conservation and climate change mitigation.

These efforts aim to strengthen partnerships, raise awareness, and enhance Trans Nzoia’s resilience ahead of the main celebration on 5th June 2026.

KPCG at the 3rd Africa Waste is Wealth Summit Series Conference (AWWS III)

As a partner of the 3rd Africa Waste is Wealth Summit Series Conference (AWWS III), Kenya Platform for Climate Governance (KPCG) will contribute to the Education, Youth and Green Skills Development session.

Representing KPCG, Faith Ngige, National Coordinator, will share insights on the critical pillars of formalising and standardising green skills and green jobs within the waste management sector. The discussion will explore pathways for strengthening workforce readiness, enhancing professional recognition, and creating sustainable employment opportunities that support the transition to a circular economy.

Initiated by Takataka ni Mali Foundation, AWWS has evolved into a results-oriented platform that advances circular economy thinking and practice across Africa. The conference brings together policymakers, practitioners, private sector actors, youth, and development partners to catalyse innovative solutions for sustainable resource management and green growth across the continent.

KPCG's participation underscores its commitment to promoting inclusive climate action, green livelihoods, and skills development as key enablers of Africa's sustainable development agenda.

This International Day for Biological Diversity, under the theme “Acting locally for global impact”, a powerful idea is placed at the center: major changes begin on a small, local scale. The success of this plan to reverse biodiversity loss depends on the strength of local actions—on the commitment of communities, organizations, and governments working together.
