KPCG at the ACARES Phase II Policy Inception Roundtable in Bungoma County.

KPCG, together with Bungoma CSO Forum, Acts for Change Trust, Kimaeti Farmers Association and SOETI, today 31st July 2026, held a strategic ACARES Phase II Policy Inception Roundtable with the County Government of Bungoma at the County Secretary’s Boardroom.

The engagement followed the successful launch of the Bungoma County Agroecology Strategy and focused on moving the strategy from policy commitment to practical implementation through county planning, budgeting, climate governance, farmer participation and institutional coordination.
The meeting was attended by senior county leadership, including Mr. William Makhanu Nasong’o, County Secretary and Head of Public Service; Eng. Herbert Wanjala Kibunguchy, CECM for Agriculture; and Dr. Andrew Wekesa Wamalwa, CECM for Environment.

Partner and civil society representatives included Miriam Kisilu, Climate Justice Lead at Acts for Change Trust; Duncan Omwami, KPCG Project Officer; Ezekiel Odeoh, Bungoma CSO Forum/KPCG Focal Point; and leaders from Kimaeti Farmers Association and SOETI.

Through ACARES Phase II, KPCG and partners will continue supporting Bungoma County to position agroecology as a practical pathway for food security, climate resilience, farmer agency and locally led climate action.

KPCG AT THE LAUNCH OF THE AGROECOLOGY STRATEGY IN BUNGOMA COUNTY

Bungoma County launched its Agroecology Strategy on 30 July 2026 at Mabanga Agricultural Training Centre, marking a major milestone for sustainable farming, resilient food systems, biodiversity protection and improved livelihoods for smallholder farmers throughout the county and neighbouring rural communities.

The launch was graced by Deputy Governor H.E. Jennipher Mbatiany and Agriculture CECM Eng. Herbert Wanjala Kibunguchy, alongside county officials, who reaffirmed Bungoma’s commitment to farmer-led innovation, climate resilience, healthy soils, food security and inclusive strategy implementation across all communities.

KPCG, Acts for Change Trust, Bungoma Civil Society Forum, Kimaeti Farmers Association, and SOET joined stakeholders at the launch; Acts for Change Trust, represented by Miriam Kisilu, and KPCG, represented by Duncan Omwami, strengthened collaboration, policy engagement, and coordinated action for practical agroecology across Bungoma County.

Local partners, Kimaeti Farmers Association and SOET, participated actively by hosting exhibitions that highlighted the importance of community ownership in implementing the strategy. Their involvement will help translate county commitments into practical farmer support, local knowledge sharing and lasting climate-resilient agricultural transformation countywide.

KPCG Participates in the DANKE Circular Economy Training Series (CETS) Workshop and Circular Innovation Awards
Today, the Kenya Platform for Climate Governance (KPCG) participated in the DANKE Circular Economy Training Series (CETS) Workshop and Circular Innovation Awards, reaffirming its commitment to advancing sustainable development and promoting the transition to a circular economy in Kenya.
KPCG was represented by Faith Ngige, who moderated the session on "Green Skills and Circular Economy Careers for Youth and Women." The session explored emerging green jobs, entrepreneurship opportunities, and the skills, partnerships, and institutional support required to position young people and women as leaders, innovators, and key drivers of Kenya's green and circular economy.
In recognition of its contribution, KPCG received a Certificate of Appreciation for its role as an organizer of the Danida Kenya Alumni Network (DANKE) Circular Economy Onsite Workshop. The workshop was funded by the Danida Fellowship Centre and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.
KPCG remains committed to fostering multi-stakeholder collaboration, promoting climate action, and supporting innovative circular economy solutions that create sustainable livelihoods while building a resilient and inclusive green future for Kenya.

Day Two: Inclusion and Effective Coordination for Agroecology
During Day Two on 3rd July 2026, of the 3rd National Agroecology Symposium, Stellamaris Mulaeh, Country Director, Acts for Change Trust, emphasized that farmers and communities should not only be consulted but must help shape decisions, projects and investments affecting their food systems. She called for stronger recognition and financing of indigenous knowledge, improved access to land, markets and finance for women, and greater investment in community leadership and accountability.
In a breakout session on designing effective coordination through CASSCOMs, Faith Ngige, National Coordinator, KPCG, highlighted the role of multi-stakeholder platforms in strengthening public participation, participatory devolution and intergovernmental coordination. She underscored the need for appropriate institutional frameworks, clear governance and membership structures, balanced representation of duty bearers and rights holders, defined roles for government and development partners, and sustainable institutional anchoring.
The symposium’ closed down with a Call to Action urging stakeholders to build on Kenya’s progress by moving from strategy to funded implementation of agroecology especially in driving uptake of organic inputs and products , shared leadership and accountable coordination.

‎ Transforming Agri Food Systems through Agroecology

‎KPCG represented by National Coordinator Faith Ngige, is participating in the 3rd National Agroecology Symposium (NAS), Kenya at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies (KSMS), Nairobi, taking place from 22nd–23rd July 2026, as part Fastenktion partners and the broader civil society movement committed to transforming Kenya’s agrifood systems.

‎Organized by PELUM Kenya, the symposium was officially opened on behalf of the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Hon. Mutahi Kagwe, by the Agriculture Secretary, Mr. Peter Odhiambo.

‎This year’s symposium comes at a pivotal moment as Kenya transitions from agroecology strategy development to implementation at scale. The conversations are timely, practical, and deeply relevant — focusing on how policy, community knowledge, financing, and partnerships can converge to build resilient, inclusive, and sustainable food systems.

‎A key reflection emerging from the symposium is that agroecology must move from dialogue to implementation. This requires stronger policy action, increased financing for agroecological initiatives, and meaningful participation of farmers, women, youth, and pastoralist communities who are at the heart of food systems transformation.
