Building a United and Peaceful Laini Saba Ahead of 2027 🇰🇪💜
Today, I had the privilege of attending a civic forum in Laini Saba Ward, convened by feminist organizations to discuss the institutionalization of civic forums and, importantly, strengthening community unity and peaceful coexistence as we approach the 2027 General Election.
For me, peace is more than the absence of conflict. It is about creating a community where every voice is heard, differences are respected, women and young people participate meaningfully, and leaders remain accountable to the people they serve.
As we prepare for 2027, Laini Saba must reject politics of division, intimidation and empty promises. We must build a culture of issue-based leadership, informed civic participation, dignity and accountability.
A peaceful Laini Saba is possible. A united Laini Saba is possible. And together, we can build it. đź’ś

As we celebrate Madaraka Day, we are reminded that true freedom means safety, dignity, and justice for all. It is heartbreaking that as a nation we continue to witness rising insecurity, with women and children losing their lives to violence.
Today, we honor those we have lost and call for renewed commitment from leaders, communities, and institutions to protect every life. A nation is only truly free when its women, children, and vulnerable members can live without fear.

Today we stand in solidarity with the families affected by the tragic incident at Utumishi girls Academy
We mourn the lives lost, pray for healing for the injured, and send strength to every family carrying pain and at this difficult time.
This tragedy reminds us of the urgent need for accountability, safety, and protection of lives. We call for thorough investigations and responsibility for any failed duty and negligence that may have contributed to this heartbreaking incident.
No family should suffer because systems failed to protect them.

Today we join the world in marking Menstrual Hygiene Day and the International Day of Action for Women’s Health. 🌸
Menstrual health is not a luxury — it is dignity, health, education, and human rights. No girl should miss school, feel ashamed, or lack access to sanitary products and accurate information because of her period.
At Feminist for Peace Rights and Justice Centre , we are proud to have launched FEMPad reusable sanitary pads as a community-driven and sustainable solution to support girls and women with affordable, environmentally friendly menstrual products.
Through this initiative, we continue to break stigma, promote dignity, support education for girls, and advance reproductive health rights for all.
Together, let us build communities where every girl and woman can manage menstruation safely, confidently, and with dignity.

I had the privilege of attending a powerful training at United States International University Africa under the Sisterhood Project, focused on “Making Politics Safer: Practical Lessons for Young Women in Politics.”
As a grassroots woman leader from Kibera, this space spoke directly to my lived reality. We unpacked the real challenges women face in political spaces—violence, intimidation, online harassment—and most importantly, we explored practical strategies to navigate and overcome them.
To every young woman daring to lead: your voice matters, your presence matters, and you belong in these spaces.

Across Nairobi’s informal settlements, 40 Women Human Rights Defenders convened in Machakos County together with one shared purpose—to confront Gender-Based Violence with courage, skill, and solidarity.
These are the first responders in our communities. The ones who stand with survivors in their most vulnerable moments. The ones who refuse to look away when injustice strikes.
This space was about more than training—it was about equipping, connecting, and reinforcing the systems that keep our communities going. From survivor-centered response to safety, coordination, and documentation, we are strengthening the backbone of grassroots action
To every partner who continues to walk this journey with us—your support fuels real impact on the ground. It protects, it empowers, and it sustains the work of those who show up every single day.
Together, we are shaping communities where dignity is restored, defenders are protected, and justice is not a privilege—but a reality.

As we mark the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence yesterday, we are reminded that this is not just a season on the calendar — it is a global call to conscience. Gender-based violence is not a women’s issue; it is a societal failure. Awareness alone is not enough. What protects women are systems that work, leaders who act, and communities that refuse to normalize violence.
Violence thrives where silence lives. Every time we speak out, challenge harmful norms, and demand accountability, we disrupt the cycle that keeps women and girls unsafe.
Women do not need empowerment — they need the world to stop disempowering them. The backlash against women’s progress is real, and we must confront it boldly.
This year, we reaffirm that:
_ GBV is not cultural — it is a choice, and choices can be unlearned.
_ Economic justice is protection.
_Political spaces must be made safe for women leaders.
_Male champions must be co-creators of solutions, not spectators.
_Feminist movements remain the strongest force for change.
A safe world for women is a better world for everyone.
Let us use these 16 days to spark courage, demand accountability, and strengthen the movement. But let us also remember: the work continues long after the 16 days end.

Rt Hon Raila Odinga always envisioned, strengthening the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is not just about party politics — it’s about building a movement rooted in justice, democracy, and inclusion.
I represented the ODM Women’s League a cross-political party workshop supported by
Centre For Multiparty Democracy this is honour and a responsibility. It offerd a space to share, learn, and collectively advance the democratic values that Baba championed — unity, accountability, gender equality, and transformative leadership.
As ODM women, we stand as torchbearers of this vision — strengthening internal party democracy, amplifying women’s voices, and nurturing the next generation of female leaders who will carry forward Rt Hon Baba's dream for a just and prosperous Kenya.
