The Montreal Protocol has demonstrated that science based policy, universal participation, strong compliance, dedicated financing, and effective partnerships can deliver real and measurable results.

Through these elements, the treaty has not only protected the ozone layer but also enabled countries and industries to transition to safer, more sustainable alternatives while supporting economic development.

Pollution generated from satellites and rockets burning up upon re-entry such as black soot, rare metals, aluminium oxides and others could impact the ozone layer. This thin fragile layer is projected to only recover to its pre-1980 levels by the mid-2060s. The release of additional ozone-damaging substances could negatively impact ozone layer recovery and human health.
