Wadada Kupitiliza recently held an inspiring webinar on the theme “Start Small, Think Big” drawing from the wisdom of Jack Ma’s talk on the same topic, and insights from Atomic Habits by James Clear.
The session challenged us to rethink how we approach our goals, our habits, and ultimately, our growth.
Key Lessons from the session
1. Refuse to Be Comfortable:
Comfort is tempting, but growth never lives there. Staying in motion is a choice we must make continuously even when it’s inconvenient.
2. Strive to Be 1% Better Every Day:
Small, consistent improvements compound over time. Focus on daily progress rather than overnight transformation.
3. Build Consistency Through Systems:
Goals are fueled by habits and supported by systems. It be look like using a habit tracker to having an accountability partner. Strive to keep the promises you make to yourself and grow into the person who gets things done.
4. Act Fast, Fail Fast, Learn Fast:
Jack Ma reminds us to create urgency, take action, and learn from every misstep.
5. Progress Over Perfection:
Don’t wait for the “perfect” plan, start, then improve along the way. Perfectionism often stalls progress.
The formula to aim for is Learn > Earn > Return.
Behavioral Change — The 4 Key insights from Atomic Habits:
• Make it obvious – Set clear cues for the habit.
• Make it attractive – Find ways to make the process enjoyable.
• Make it easy – Start small and grow gradually.
• Make it satisfying – Celebrate wins and reward yourself.
That goal you set and abandoned? Dust it off. Re-strategize. Begin again and commit to small steps.
• Save a small amount consistently and watch it grow.
• Start your health journey with daily walks and show up every day.
• Track your progress and let consistency shape a new version of you.
Tiny habits are easier to adopt, more consistent and create a positive feedback loop that leads to larger changes over time.
You don’t need a perfect plan to begin, you need to begin to perfect the plan.
Remember, we only get ahead by getting started.
