Action for Refugee Life(AREL) is a community-based organization initiated in 2022 specifically to build a footpath to a Sustainable and Self-Reliant Future for the refugee community.

AReL is proud to be conducting a 𝟰-𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗜𝗖𝗧 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽 designed to equip high school girls with practical digital, creative, and entrepreneurial skills for education, employment, freelancing, and digital entrepreneurship.

Through hands-on learning, mentorship, collaboration, and real-world projects, participants are developing skills in 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗰 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 & 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗩𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝘆 & 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗪𝗲𝗯 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟯𝗗 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴.

The bootcamp is helping girls move from being 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀, 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺-𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝘀.

A big shout-out to UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and the Vodafone Foundation for their support, and our sincere thanks to The Lutheran World Federation for the great collaboration in making this initiative possible.

We are excited to share that the renovation of the Tech Hub has been successfully completed.

This transformation marks an important milestone in our commitment to creating a more conducive, professional, and inspiring learning environment for refugee and host community youth in Kakuma. The upgraded space will provide our learners, innovators, and entrepreneurs with a better environment to develop digital skills, collaborate, and access opportunities in the global digital economy.

Today, we are honored to welcome the team from UN-Habitat to our Tech Hub. Their visit provided an opportunity to learn more about the work we are doing to empower refugees and host communities through digital skills development, innovation, entrepreneurship, and access to meaningful economic opportunities.

We had productive discussions on our programs, impact, and vision for creating sustainable pathways to self-reliance. The visit also allowed us to explore potential areas of collaboration where we can work together to strengthen community development and expand opportunities for the people we serve.

We appreciate the UN-Habitat team for taking the time to engage with us, learn about our journey, and explore possibilities for future partnership. We look forward to building meaningful collaborations that create lasting impact.

Since 2023, Action for Refugee Life has been committed to empowering refugees and host community youth with the digital skills, infrastructure, and opportunities needed to thrive in the global digital economy.

Over the past three years (2023–2026), we have built a strong technical ecosystem in the Turkana region, proving that when displaced communities have access to market-driven training, modern technology, and structured professional pathways, they can compete, innovate, and lead.

This is more than a milestone. It is evidence that investing in refugee-led innovation and locally driven solutions creates lasting impact.

𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 & 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: Learning to analyze data, develop predictive models, and solve real-world challenges using AI-driven techniques.

𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝗟𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴: Developing the foundational skills that power intelligent AI systems through high-quality data preparation.

𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆: Learning animation, video editing, and 3D modeling while developing the creative and technical skills needed to produce engaging digital content and visual experiences.

𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝗘-𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗲: Mastering digital marketing strategies, branding, social media management, e-commerce, and marketing automation using 𝗻𝟴𝗻 to streamline workflows, automate campaigns, and improve business efficiency.

Every session reflects our commitment to equipping refugees and host community youth with practical digital skills, fostering innovation, and creating pathways to meaningful employment and entrepreneurship.

𝗟𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸, 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗡𝗦 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗥𝗲𝗟 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗛𝘂𝗯.

The 5-day intensive program equipped coaches with practical digital and technical skills across various areas, including 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗰 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝘃𝗮, 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴.

Through this training, participants strengthened their capacity to deliver impactful learning experiences, embrace technology, and support innovation within their communities.

We shared our work, experiences, and vision for building inclusive, localized, community-based responses that strengthen resilience, promote self-reliance, and create pathways for meaningful participation in the digital economy.

We are grateful for the Ambassador's interest in refugee-led initiatives and his commitment to understanding the impact of locally driven solutions. Partnerships, dialogue, and investment in community leadership are essential to creating lasting change.

Yesterday, we were honored to welcome 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗲, a journalist from the United States, together with the Inkomoko Global team, to the 𝗔𝗥𝗲𝗟 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗛𝘂𝗯 in Kakuma Refugee Camp.

The visit provided an opportunity to share our work and discuss how AReL is connecting talented young refugees to digital work opportunities through technology, skills development, and innovation.

𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗲 was particularly curious to learn more about Kiza Action Limited and Action for Refugee Life , including how the two organizations work together to create opportunities for refugee youth and strengthen pathways to digital employment, entrepreneurship, and community development.

We are grateful for the opportunity to showcase the creativity, resilience, and potential of refugee youth. Meaningful conversations like these help amplify refugee voices and create pathways for greater collaboration and impact.

we believe that meaningful partnerships are essential in creating sustainable opportunities for refugee and host community youth in Kakuma.

Last Friday’s engagement between Lish AI Labs and AReL: Action for Refugee Life was an important step toward exploring how collaboration can expand access to AI training, digital skills development, remote work opportunities, innovation, and entrepreneurship for young people in underserved communities.

As the digital economy continues to grow globally, communities like Kakuma mustn't be left behind. Young people have the talent, creativity, and potential to compete globally when given access to the right skills, mentorship, and opportunities.

We appreciate Wangari Githugo for the great work in facilitating this engagement and for her continued commitment to digital inclusion and ecosystem building. Conversations like these create pathways toward meaningful digital livelihoods and long-term impact for the next generation.
