We are at a Critical Point in the Nation’s History: Two Years since the Promulgation of New Constitution and just a couple of months to the first General Election under the new Dispensation. Are the Citizenry and its Leadership ready to deliver the New Kenya?
• Who should set the Pace? Should it not be our Varsity Community? Towards Creating a Chain of Excellence for Varsity Community to Meet th
e Challenge!
• We could ask the question regarding the youth. Who should set the pace? Would it be Preposterous to suggest our Youth? Towards Mobilizing the Youth to unleash their Motive Power; Reservoir of Enthusiasm; Creativity and Innovatory Drive to play a Critical Role in Kenya’s Transformation through the Youth 4 Youth Empowerment Initiative!
• Yet, we could still ask the same question regarding our politicians. Are the general elections of March 2013 not our God-given chance to elect a leadership fit to deliver New Kenya? Towards voting for Aspirants who are with us in the Mother of All Alliances – the Alliance against Poverty! New Kenya; a Poverty Free Kenya! The Task at Hand for the Citizens:
• Citizens of Kenya; you are called upon to Take Charge and Take back your Motherland through your Vote! Vote for those who are with you in the Mother of All Alliances – the Alliance against Poverty!
• Citizens of Kenya; you are called upon to Take Charge and Take back your Motherland so that you can Embark on Reconstructing her and Configuring a Bright New Future! This can be accomplished through our Bottom-up Initiative called PPPP (People Public Private Partnership). The initiative aims at creating a synergy of inputs from the citizens, the government; and the private sector for the purpose of “Transforming Kenya”. The initiative will “Utilize the New Constitution & Vision 2030 to unleash the Nation’s potential for a Better Kenya”. The PPPP Initiative is not a Nairobi thing! Instead, it revolves around a children’s project called The Young Brigade for Good Governance & Good Citizenship in Africa. Children in our primary schools are members of this Brigade. Our youth – the older brothers and sisters of the children in the Young Brigade will mobilize you to join the movement against poverty which is the African Society against Poverty. Membership in the movement is the ticket to the PPPP platform which is the Mother of Alliances – the Alliance against Poverty! Elections 2013 – Preempting a Repeat of the Error of 2007
The Answer Resides in Alternative Campaign Politics that is Issue-Based and Inter-generational in Focus
We were there in 2007; but, may be we were too young to be taken seriously. We are the African Society against Poverty (ASAPO) and when the general election happened we were just 10 months old, having been registered in February 2007! Nevertheless, we tried to reach out to the political class offering them a platform for the campaigns. Unlike the usual campaign politics of regional and ethnic supremacy, we offered them an anti-poverty campaign platform. We specifically approached the PNU political side hoping it would embrace our neutral and issue based platform to defuse the “42 tribes versus 1 tribe” strategy of the other side. The results of such hate politics – the politics of regional and ethnic supremacy is today a sad piece of history and a monumental national shame! Ironically, however, the political violence that followed the elections resulted in something hugely positive – the reforms that produced a New Constitution under whose dispensation we shall be holding the next general elections – 2013 in a couple of months! The Selfish Political Class is none the Wiser! Observers are worried we are heading straight into another storm of the campaign politics of regional and ethnic supremacy! Alliances are forming fast and they all smack of the hate politics of “us versus them”. This time round we are not so young. We have been around for over five years and we have laid down structures we want to use as we offer yet another neutral campaign platform. We are offering the Mother of All Alliances – the Alliance against Poverty! Strategy and Agenda for Action
We have an initiative called “Transforming Kenya through PPPP (People Public Private Partnership) – Towards Utilizing the New Constitution & Vision 2030 to unleash the Nation’s Potential for a Better Kenya”. The African Society against Poverty is now a movement with 60 chapters that represent every face of our society. Its founder calls it the “60 Cylinder Engine in the African Race against Poverty”. We plan to rally this movement around a project called The Young Brigade for Good Governance & Good Citizenship in Africa under the banner: The Challenge of New Kenya! It is the challenge of “reconstructing the present and configuring a bright new future”. This PPPP initiative is what will result in the Mother of All Alliances – the Alliance against Poverty. Kenyans will be mobilized to join a chapter or chapters of their choice and through their subscriptions assist The Young Brigade for Good Governance. Joining the movement is considered an act of reconstructing the present; and assisting The Young Brigade is an act of configuring a bright new future.
