Promoting Access to water sanitation and hygiene is an important program area among our community health initiatives. While we have had remarkable progress in improving access to these key services within the informal settlements in Kenya with the support of through community filters in schools, household water filters as well as chlorination, there is still a great need. On this , the focus is on "Ensuring Universal Access to Water Sanitation and hygiene for the African Child. In Inaudot Kajiado County, children are unable to stay in school most of the time of the year due to water scarcity. They have to travel longer distances looking for water for household use which is unsafe as well as for livestock. We are actively looking for friends and partners to put resources in the construction of sand dams and a borehole to ensure access to safe water, help keep children in school, ensure predictable livelihoods and good quality of life in this community.

MAMA Kenya Project June 2026 Deworming Campaigns in Kibra and Kwa Ruben for Worm Free Communities and School Health Promotion.

Intestinal worms remain a major public health concern affecting school-age children in Kenya. Heavy worm infections contribute to anemia, malnutrition, impaired mental and physical development, reduced school attendance, and poor academic performance. In line with the National School Health Policy and World Health Organization recommendations, periodic mass deworming is a safe, effective, and cost-efficient strategy for reducing the burden of soil-transmitted helminths in areas where prevalence exceeds 20%.

The MAMA Project in its Global Vision for Local Health has supported over a million deworming dosages in the most at-risk communities in Kenya. The June campaign focusing on all age groups and prioritizing school children is a one week campaign targeting at least 20,000 members of the community.
Our reach for children under five years have also been made possible through dosages from Vitamin Angels alongside local health systems.

"From burden to solutions - Safe food everywhere", the theme for World Food Safety Day 2026 resonates with the MAMA Kenya Project food security strategies. The innovative hybrid urban food production for food security integrates kitchen gardens and poultry/animal production; and continue to ensure sustainability of the nutrition gains in our nutrition program. The hybrid gardens are self-sustaining and entirely organic hence ensuring zero chemical residue of the produce. Food safety doesn't stop at production, ensuring food hygiene from Farm to Fork for our beneficiaries further ensures safety across the chain. As we commemorate this day, our gratitude goes to for the additional 20 households in Lang'ata and Kibra supported to set up hybrid urban gardens during the May-June cycle.

Menstrual health is not just about hygiene, it’s about dignity, education and opportunity. Through our menstrual hygiene program, we continue to support girls in communities by providing access to reusable sanitary kits where they are needed most and create a safe space where girls can learn, ask questions and gain the confidence to manage their menstruation with dignity. By combining access to sustainable products with education, we are breaking stigma, improving school attendance, boosting self-esteem and empowering girls to thrive. As we mark the Menstrual Hygiene Day, we thank our partners and who have enabled us to reach 1065 school girls through comprehensive menstrual health support in Nairobi and Kajiado counties in Kenya. On this important day, our team reached another 200 girls at Joseph Kang'ethe Comprehensive School in Kibra as we come Together for a Period Friendly World.

In Kajiado County, hundreds of children show up every day with hope in their eyes and hunger in their bellies. In the aging school buildings, resources are scarce, long distances to be covered and the odds are stacked against them, yet they come. That resilience deserves our investment.
