𝗔 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗳 𝗶𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱.

At , the Social Systems working session examined what it takes to ensure that Africa’s transition creates opportunities that are inclusive, dignified, and accessible, particularly for young people, women, and communities at the heart of transitioning industries.

Across four sector rooms, delegates explored real African case studies in:

Because Africa’s green economy will only be truly successful when people can participate in it, benefit from it, and build their livelihoods through it.

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹-𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲.

The 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 at the 𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘂𝗴𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝟰 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 ( #𝗚𝗪𝟰𝗔) brought delegates together under the 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆, 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗿 to examine practical solutions already being tested across the continent.

Across four concurrent sessions, participants explored case studies in:

𝟭. 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲-𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 & 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀
𝟮. 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 & 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆

The focus was on more than showcasing innovation. Participants examined what is working, the lessons emerging from implementation, the barriers to scaling, and what is needed to move proven solutions from individual initiatives to broader economic impact.

These practical insights are central to the GW4A approach: 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆, 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝘁.

The morning at the 𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘂𝗴𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝟰 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 ( #𝗚𝗪𝟰𝗔) has set a clear direction: 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮’𝘀 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀, 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱, 𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆, 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲.

The Forum started with remarks from Sellah Bogonko, Co-Founder & CEO of Jacob’s Ladder Africa, followed by perspectives from Kevin Munjal of Fsd_Africa, Dr. Rose Mwebaza of UNEP, Marek Hanusch of the World Bank Group, and Ms. Hannah Salian, GIZ Kenya Programme Director for Energy, Transport and Climate Change.

A key highlight of the morning was the presentation of findings from 𝗨𝗻𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮’𝘀 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗮 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲, presented by Janine Ampulire Mwesigye of FSD Africa. The report provides a compelling outlook on Africa’s green jobs potential, 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 to ensure the just transition creates inclusive and quality employment opportunities.

Africa's e-mobility future will be built here.

At GreenWorks 4 Africa, Siemens Stiftung will convene a side event titled Building Africa’s E-Mobility Industry: Local Manufacturing, Circularity & Skills for Green Jobs.

Africa's transition to electric mobility is about more than putting more electric vehicles on the road. It is an opportunity to build local manufacturing capacity, circular value chains and the technical skills needed to create quality green jobs.

The session will explore what it takes to strengthen Africa's e-mobility industry from local production and battery circularity to the workforce required to power the sector.

What happens when green skills can move with people?

At GreenWorks 4 Africa, Center for Global Development (Center for Global Development ) will lead a session on Linking Labour Mobility and TVET to Support Green Skills Development in Africa and Abroad.

As demand for green skills grows across countries and sectors, Africa needs skills systems that can prepare young people for emerging opportunities and pathways that allow those skills to translate into employment across borders.

The session will explore how TVET, skills recognition and labour mobility can work together to strengthen Africa’s green workforce and expand opportunities for its young population.

Africa doesn't need to reinvent the wheel. It needs to scale what works.

At GreenWorks 4 Africa, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and World Resources Institute (WRI) will convene How to Scale Good Practices of Green Skills Development in Africa.

Across the continent, innovative approaches to green skills development are already emerging. The challenge is turning successful local models into solutions that can reach more people, sectors and countries.

This session will examine what makes green skills initiatives work, what stands in the way of scale, and how proven approaches can be adapted and replicated across Africa.
