SHE STEPPED UP TO RECITE A POEM… AND WALKED AWAY WITH A SCHOLARSHIP 🎓❤️
Sunday, 20th September 2026, will remain a special day in the life of Joy Kanana and her family.
What began as a normal day of sporting activities and public engagement in Gaturi, South Imenti, ended with the birth of another daughter into the Kamashinani Foundation family.
During Hon. Kathuri Murungi’s visit, Joy confidently walked to the podium and offered to recite a poem for the Senator.
She stood before the crowd with remarkable confidence and delivered her poem.
But there was more to Joy than the courage she displayed on that podium.
Members of the public brought attention to her family’s circumstances. Joy is one of six children in the family, with five currently in school. Her father, Douglas Mwenda, has worked tirelessly to provide for his family and keep his children in school despite the financial challenges that come with educating such a large family.
Then came the moment that changed everything.
Moved by Joy’s confidence and the story shared by the community, Hon. Kathuri Murungi, Patron of Kamashinani Foundation, announced that the Foundation would sponsor Joy throughout her studies.
Just like that, a simple poem became the beginning of a new chapter.
Joy Kanana is now the 243rd student to receive a full scholarship through the Kamashinani Foundation.
From standing on a podium with nothing but courage in her heart… to becoming a fully sponsored student.
