🌍 BIG NEWS FROM THE TALK TO TALK FORUM 2026 SECRETARIAT!

What began as a bold idea is rapidly becoming a national movement.

Over the last two months, refugee-led organizations from Nairobi, Kakuma, Kalobeyei, Dadaab, Mombasa, Nakuru, Eldoret, Kitengela, and beyond have come together to build the foundation of the Talk to Talk Forum 2026 — a platform where refugee voices, partnerships, and solutions take center stage.

âś… RLO mapping completed across multiple regions
âś… Thematic clusters established
âś… Secretariat fully operational
âś… Stakeholder engagement underway
âś… Partnership and localization structures developed
âś… National dialogue preparations advancing

This forum is about more than a meeting.

It is about creating a space where refugee-led organizations, donors, government institutions, INGOs, academia, and the private sector can sit together, listen to one another, and co-create practical solutions for stronger and more inclusive communities.

We are now entering the final stages of preparation.

To our friends, partners, donors, foundations, embassies, UN agencies, and supporters of localization: this is the moment to stand with us.

Your support will help make this vision a reality and create meaningful opportunities for hundreds of refugee-led organizations across Kenya.

And our vision goes even further.

If we achieve our fundraising target, Talk to Talk will expand into area-based dialogues in 📍Kakuma, 📍Kalobeyei, 📍Dadaab, 📍Nairobi, 📍Mombasa, and 📍Nakuru—bringing the conversation directly to refugee and host communities.

Together, we can move from discussion to action, from representation to participation, and from promises to partnerships.

đź’™ These women are not waiting for change. They are creating it.

Every day, from Monday to Friday, women gather at L’Afrikana under the LAFRICOOP Saving Groups Program.

They come with dreams.
They come with determination.
They come with a commitment to build a better future for their families.

Today, LAFRICOOP has grown to:

🌱 38 active savings groups
👩🏾‍🤝‍👩🏿 23+ members in each group
đź“… Daily meetings throughout the week

What may look like an ordinary gathering is actually something powerful.

It is mothers supporting mothers.
It is women saving together.
It is small businesses being born.
It is families becoming more resilient.
It is communities building economic power from within.

Every contribution matters.

A few shillings saved today can become school fees tomorrow.
A small loan can become a thriving business.
A group meeting can become a source of hope, confidence, and opportunity.

This is the impact of collective action.

This is what happens when communities are trusted to lead their own development.

📣 We invite donors, partners, philanthropists, and friends of L’Afrikana to join us in expanding LAFRICOOP to reach even more women and families.

Together, we can build stronger communities, sustainable livelihoods, and brighter futures.

Progress you can see. Impact you can be part of.

🌍 This is LAFRICOOP in action.

These are not just women gathered together.
These are women building their future every single day.

Under our LAFRICOOP Saving Groups, we now have:
👉 38 active groups
👉 Each with 23+ members
👉 Meeting every day, Monday to Friday

Yes every day.

They show up with commitment, with courage, and with a shared vision:
to grow, to support each other, and to move forward together.

đź’ˇ What happens in these groups?

âś” Women save together
âś” They support one another financially
âś” They start and grow small businesses
âś” They build trust, confidence, and independence

This is not theory.
This is real economic empowerment happening on the ground.

🔥 Why this matters

Behind every group is:
đź’› A mother creating income
đź’› A child going to school
đź’› A family gaining stability
đź’› A community becoming stronger

This is how we move from:
👉 Struggle → to strength
👉 Isolation → to solidarity
👉 Survival → to self-reliance

🤝 Now imagine the impact

38 groups today…
But the demand is much bigger.

How many more women are ready?
How many more families can be transformed?

📣 We are calling on partners, donors, and supporters:

Support LAFRICOOP
Invest in women
Invest in community-led solutions that are already working

This is not just a program.
This is a movement.

🌍 Have you heard about LAFRICOOP?

If not, this is the right time to ask:

👉 What is LAFRICOOP?
👉 How does it work?
👉 And why should you be part of it?

LAFRICOOP is more than a project.
It is a community-driven cooperative model designed by L’Afrikana to bring together refugees and host communities to build sustainable livelihoods, shared economic opportunities, and collective growth.

đź’ˇ So, how does it work?

LAFRICOOP brings people together to:
âś” Pool resources and ideas
âś” Start and grow small businesses
âś” Access skills, mentorship, and support
âś” Build financial resilience as a community

It is about moving from:
👉 Individual struggle → to collective strength
👉 Dependency → to self-reliance
👉 Survival → to economic empowerment

🌱 Why does LAFRICOOP matter?

Because many refugees and host community members:

* Have skills but no capital
* Have ideas but no platform
* Have potential but no structured support

LAFRICOOP is designed to unlock that potential.

🤝 Why should you support or join?

If you are:

* A donor or partner → this is a scalable, community-led economic model
* A supporter → this is where real impact happens
* A community member → this is your opportunity to grow and build

📣 We are now inviting partners, donors, and supporters to come on board.

Be part of building:
âś” Sustainable livelihoods
âś” Stronger communities
âś” Real economic transformation

LAFRICOOP is not just a project.
It is a pathway to dignity, opportunity, and shared prosperity.

🌍 L’Afrikana at the Representing Refugees at the Highest Level

We are proud to share that L’Afrikana participated in the Africa Forward Summit, represented by a strong delegation of four leaders:

- Prof. Benjamin Sango, Chief Executive Officer
- Mr. Saidi, Chief Finance Officer
- Rev. Aaron Kitungano, Country Representative – DRC
- Prof. Mabembe, Country Director – Canada

🤝 Taking Refugee Voices to Global Leaders

At the summit, we had the privilege to engage directly with global decision-makers, ensuring that refugee and internally displaced communities are not just discussed but truly represented.

A key moment was when Prof. Benjamin Sango engaged the President of France, raising critical questions on global support for Kenya’s Shirika Plan.

We also met with global leaders, including the UN Secretary-General, where we presented our recommendation papers on refugee-led solutions, localization, and equitable partnerships.

đź—Ł A Trusted Refugee-Led Voice

L’Afrikana was among the few trusted refugee-led organizations invited to this high-level platform.

At the summit, we carried the voice of refugee-led organizations across the region, calling for:
âś” Direct support to refugee-led initiatives
âś” Fair and inclusive partnerships
âś” Real implementation of localization commitments

⚠️ Eastern DRC: A Crisis That Needs Urgent Attention

We also raised the urgent situation in Eastern DRC, where internally displaced persons continue to live in extremely difficult and inhumane conditions:

* Lack of basic services
* Ongoing insecurity
* Limited humanitarian support

These are real lives, real families, and real futures at risk.

📣 Our Call to Action

We call on donors, partners, and the international community:

👉 Support internally displaced persons in Eastern DRC
👉 Invest in refugee-led organizations delivering real impact
👉 Move from commitments to real action on the ground

🔑 Why This Matters

Our presence at the summit is a clear message:

Refugees are not just beneficiaries. They are leaders, partners, and solution-builders.

At L’Afrikana, we remain committed to representing, delivering, and transforming systems for the communities we serve.

We showed up. We spoke. We represented.
Now it’s time to act together.

📢 REMINDER: Talk to Talk Space – Tomorrow at 4:00 PM

Tomorrow, we come together again.

The Talk to Talk Space is not just a meeting—it’s a platform where voices are heard, ideas are shared, and real conversations shape real solutions.

Whether you are a refugee leader, partner, or community member, your voice matters in this space.

đź’¬ Expect open dialogue

🌍 L’Afrikana is honored to participate in the Africa Forward Summit, joining leaders, policymakers, innovators, development actors, and young changemakers shaping the future of Africa.

As a refugee-led organization, our presence at this important platform is more than representation — it is a reminder that refugees are not merely beneficiaries of humanitarian assistance, but active contributors to Africa’s development, peacebuilding, innovation, and economic transformation.

Through this summit, we hope to advance critical conversations on:

âś… The inclusion of refugees and refugee-led organizations in development and investment frameworks
âś… Education and employment opportunities for displaced youth
âś… Refugee self-reliance and socio-economic integration
✅ Support for Kenya’s Shirikaplan and community-based inclusion models
âś… Expanding global pathways for refugee education, mobility, and resettlement
âś… Direct partnerships and funding opportunities for refugee-led organizations

For refugee-led organizations (RLOs), spaces like the Africa Forward Summit matter because they create opportunities to:
• engage directly with decision-makers
• build strategic partnerships
• influence policies that affect displaced communities
• showcase refugee innovation and leadership
• strengthen local solutions to global challenges

L’Afrikana believes that the future of refugee response in Africa must be designed with refugees themselves at the center of decision-making.

We look forward to meaningful dialogue, new collaborations, and collective action toward a more inclusive and dignified future for displaced communities across Africa.

🎥 A Mother’s Struggle. A Child’s Right. A Solution That Works.

Louis is a refugee mother.

Last year, she gave birth to her child full of hope, like any parent would be.

But months passed… and her child had no birth certificate.

No legal identity.
No access to essential services.
No clear future.

She went from office to office, seeking help.
She asked, waited, followed up… but nothing changed.

Until she heard about L’Afrikana.

Within one week, everything shifted.

👉 Her child’s birth certificate was processed
👉 Her child now has a legal identity
👉 A future that is now recognized and protected

This is not just a document.

This is:
âś” Access to education
âś” Access to healthcare
âś” Protection under the law
âś” Recognition of existence

Every day, many refugee families face the same struggle.

Not because they don’t try
but because the system is difficult to navigate without support.

At L’Afrikana, we step in where the gap exists.

But the demand is growing.

📣 We are calling on partners, donors, and supporters:

Help us reach more mothers like Louis.
Help us ensure no child grows up without identity.
Help us turn barriers into solutions.

Because every child deserves to be seen, recognized, and protected.

🎤 JOIN THE CONVERSATION THAT MATTERS

For years, we have spoken about localization, participation, and inclusion in the refugee response.

But we must ask ourselves honestly:

👉 Who is really being heard?
👉 Who truly has access to the table?
👉 And who remains invisible?

In many spaces, one voice is expected to represent thousands of refugee-led organizations.

But refugees are not one story.
They are diverse, complex, and full of different realities.

Yet, we continue to see:
❌ The same actors in every meeting
❌ The same organizations receiving funding
❌ Many refugee-led organizations labeled as “lacking capacity”
❌ Hundreds of organizations left unseen and unsupported

This is not meaningful participation.
This is not true localization.

It is time to have an honest conversation.

🌍 We invite you to join us for an important X Space dialogue:

“From Representation to Gatekeeping: Who Really Speaks for Refugee-Led Organizations?”

đź“… Date: Friday, 15th May 2026
đź•” Time: 17:00 EAT
đź”— Join here: https://x.com/i/status/2047561187827572784

đź’¬ What we will discuss:

- The gap between localization commitments and reality
- Barriers to funding and partnerships
- The role of representation and access
- How we move from symbolic inclusion to real participation
- What a fair and inclusive system should look like

This is not about blaming.
This is about building a better system together.

A system where:
âś” More voices are heard
âś” Access is open and fair
âś” Power is shared
✔ Refugee-led organizations are not just present—but influential

🔥 Because the truth is simple:

You cannot design solutions for people
without truly involving them.

📣 We call on:
Donors • Partners • INGOs • UN agencies • Policymakers • Refugee-led organizations

👉 Be part of this conversation
👉 Share your perspective
👉 Help shape the future of refugee participation

From being on the menu → to being at the table.
From presence → to power.

Let’s talk. Let’s listen. Let’s transform.

🔥 A System That Was Meant to Represent Us… Failed Us

For years, many refugee-led organizations have been told they are “represented.”

But the reality is different.

❌ The same voices attend every meeting
❌ The same organizations receive the funding
❌ The same networks are seen as “trusted”
❌ While many others remain invisible, unheard, and unsupported

Meanwhile…

➡️ Hundreds of refugee-led organizations exist only on paper
➡️ Emerging organizations are told they “lack capacity” instead of being supported
➡️ Partnerships are formed, ideas are shared… but when funding comes, local actors are pushed out

This is not inclusion.
This is not localization.
This is a system that concentrates power and limits access.

🌍 But a new system is emerging.

The Talk To Talk Forum is building a platform where:

âś” Refugee-led organizations connect directly with donors
✔ Access is open—not controlled by gatekeepers
✔ Every voice matters—small or large organizations
âś” Partnerships are fair, transparent, and accountable
✔ Power is shared—not centralized

This is about moving from:
👉 Being on the menu → to being at the table
👉 Being consulted → to co-leading
👉 Being excluded → to being seen and funded

🚨 This is a call to donors, partners, and supporters:

If you believe in:
• Localization
• Equity
• Real impact
• Community-led solutions

👉 Then stand with us.

Support platforms that open access, not restrict it.

The time has come to move forward.
The time has come to change the system.
The time has come for Talk To Talk.
