What happens when communities are equipped with the knowledge and skills to identify exploitation, respond early, and connect survivors to the right support? More cases can be identified, reported, and referred for appropriate assistance.
Yesterday, Ghetto Shinners , in partnership with Kenya conducted a First Responders Workshop in Viwandani, Makadara Sub-County, bringing together key community actors to strengthen their knowledge, coordination, and capacity to identify, respond to, and appropriately refer cases of human trafficking and exploitation.
The workshop was more than just training,it was about strengthening the community’s frontline response and ensuring that those who may encounter vulnerable individuals know what to look for, how to respond, and where to refer cases for further support.

Building a safer community starts with an informed and prepared community. 🤝🏾
Together, we can strengthen prevention, improve reporting, protect survivors, and stand against human trafficking.

The success of the Viwandani Fire Safety Awareness Day has shown us one important thing: when a community comes together, we can build solutions for our own challenges.
Now, the focus shifts to the next step building a strong, organised, trained, equipped and recognised Viwandani Disaster Response Team. 🧯🚨
A team that can work closely with different agencies, respond effectively during emergencies, support households and help strengthen disaster preparedness within our community.
One event created awareness. Collaboration created momentum. Now, let’s build the team.
🔥 From awareness to action.
🤝🏾 From volunteers to a coordinated response.
🏘️ From a community at risk to a community prepared.
The foundation has been laid. The work continues.

🔥 VIWANDANI FIRE SAFETY AWARENESS DAY: TOGETHER, WE MADE IT POSSIBLE! 🧯

Yesterday, 26th August 2026, Viwandani came together for a successful Fire Safety Awareness & Disaster Response Day courtesy of Sinai ghetto shinners~a powerful demonstration of what can be achieved through collaboration and collective action.
From the engagement with the local administration, to the community awareness walk, practical fire-safety demonstrations and sharing of lifesaving information, the event brought together Sinai Ghetto Shinners, Viwandani Volunteer Responders, Kenya Red Cross Volunteer Champions, Rubiis Kenya-trained responders, fire and emergency personnel, local administration,EPRA,MCERN and community members.
🤝 No single organisation can build a disaster-resilient community alone. It takes different agencies, skills and experiences working together towards one common goal: a safer and better-prepared Viwandani.
The practical demonstrations helped community members understand fire prevention, LPG safety, emergency response and how to act during a fire incident. More importantly, the event strengthened the connection between community responders, government agencies and residents.
📸 These photos tell the story not just of an event, but of partnership, teamwork, learning and community action.
“We are not organising a one-day event. We are building a community that is better prepared to prevent, respond to and recover from emergencies.”

🔥 Aware Today. Safe Tomorrow.
